The WWE has had multiple past opportunities to buy Impact

At the end of 2016, Impact Wrestling's days looked numbered and even Rolling Stone Magazine reported that the WWE was about to buy the company. This never happened. At the point when Impact was at it's lowest ever value, the WWE refused to pay an amount that was lower than the annual salary they pay to some of their top wrestlers.

With the WWE failing to come to any deal, Billy Corgan was controversially shut out from the company despite previously bankrolling the company with $1.8 million in loans. Many Impact fans had wanted to see Corgan as the new owner, but Dixie Carter refused and Anthem became the new majority owners in January 2017. Clearly, the WWE will not purchase the company, just two years after refusing to buy it for a vastly lower price.
