3 sets of WWE WrestleMania opponents who didn't get along in real life, and 2 that were good friends

It's no secret that in the world of professional wrestling, there are plenty of egos.

From stars like Hulk Hogan, to Shawn Michaels, to The Rock, there has been no shortage of stars who have the rightful claim to being the greatest of all time.

And as WrestleMania approaches, it's highly likely that many Superstars will be getting more and more intense, as the biggest show of the year approaches.

Whilst the Show of Shows has seen some of the greatest matches in professional wrestling history, some matches were between Superstars who actually could not stand each other, as well as some very close friends behind the scenes.

Here are three pairs of WrestleMania opponents who didn't see eye-to-eye backstage, as well as two pairs who got on like a house on fire!

#3 Didn't get along: Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage

Two icons of the late 80s and early 90s, Hulk Hogan and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage both had incredible careers.

Both men captured the WWF Championship during their peak, and even teamed together as the Mega Powers.

Backstage though, things were not so friendly, as Hogan thought Savage was overprotective of Miss Elizabeth, whilst the Macho Man believed Hogan was getting too close.

Savage, who sadly passed in 2011, also accused the Hulkster of politicking and stealing the spotlight, something that is evident at WrestleMania 4, as despite Savage winning the WWF Title, Hogan celebrated in the ring.

Meeting for the gold one year later, Hogan would defeat the Macho King, capturing the coveted Winged Eagle title in what many consider to be one of the best matches in the Hulkster's historic career.

#2 Good friends: Shane McMahon and The Undertaker

When Shane McMahon returned to WWE in early 2016, the prodigal son wanted to prove himself.

Wanting to take over as the lead authority on WWE, the younger McMahon was forced into a Hell In A Cell match by his father against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32.

An instant huge match for a show that had been plagued with injuries, it got even better as the Deadman and Shane were totally on the same page, and had been close friends for years.

Both had seen Vince McMahon as a father figure and had bonded over their differing careers in the ring.

Taking part in his first match in nearly seven years, Shane-O-Mac came up on the losing end that night, but certainly gained the respect of countless members of the WWE Universe.

#2 Didn't get along: Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. T

The first WrestleMania was a show unlike any other, and the main event saw Hulk Hogan and actor Mr. T take on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff.

The match was certainly a success, as the next year, Piper and T faced off in a boxing match, which even by the standards of the kindest of fans, stank.

In the years since though, Piper did not pull any punches (pun intended!) in his criticism, saying that the A-Team star was untrained, unprofessional, and had no business being inside a wrestling ring.

These were harsh words for sure, though Piper did make amends with the former B.A. Baracus before his passing in 2015, as the pair bonded over their roles as fathers, and saw T enter the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014.

#1 Good friends: Shawn Michaels and Diesel

Shawn Michael's 1995 Royal Rumble win may go down in history as the greatest of all time.

Entering the match at #1, no-one expected Michaels to go the distance, and he nearly got eliminated until it was revealed that only one of his feet hit the floor.

Meeting WWF Champion Diesel, the feud was built on the two being former tag-team partners and having held the WWF Tag Team Titles together.

However, the pair were known backstage as being close friends in real life as part of The Kliq with Triple H, Razor Ramon and Sean Waltman.

Facing off at WrestleMania 11, it was Diesel who was able to flatten the smaller Michaels, crushing HBK's boyhood dream until next year when Michaels defeated Bret Hart for the title in the first Iron-Man match.

#1 Didn't get along: Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose

Brock Lesnar is a true anomaly in the WWE.

There has never been, nor will there probably be ever again, a star quite like the Beast, and though fans may loathe him for his sporadic appearances, he is a must-see star.

Meeting Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32, the Lunatic Fringe revealed that he had plenty of ideas for the match, though Lesnar wouldn't hear them.

Instead, the match was a snooze-fest, as it seemed that two simply couldn't click.

Even the No Holds Barred stipulation failed to garner excitement, as Lesnar flattened the Shield member in less than 13 minutes to pick up a forgettable win.

Hopefully, the Beast will do better when he faces fellow Shield-brother Seth Rollins at this year's WrestleMania with the Universal title on the line.
