3 Superstars who could win the United States Championship after Rey Mysterio relinquishes it

Who will become the next United States Champion?
Who will become the next United States Champion?

At the Money in the Bank pay-per-view last Sunday, Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio battled to write the next chapter of their rivalry as they went head-to-head for the United States Champion.

The future Hall-of-Famer Mysterio had won almost every major title during his time with WWE except for the United States Championship. All that changed when he controversially pinned Samoa Joe within minutes to win the title and add to his list of accomplishments with the biggest wrestling company in the world.

Things did not go well for the superstar after his win, as Joe stormed back and delivered a brutal beatdown to Mysterio who ended up getting injured in real-life.

This has resulted in him having to relinquish the United States Championship so he can get time off to heal, and he will do so this coming week on Raw.

With that said, we have compiled a list of three superstars who could manage to win the vacated United States Championship instead of Samoa Joe.

#3 Cesaro

The Superstar Shake-Up saw one of WWE’s top tag team The Bar split up, and Cesaro got transferred to Raw from SmackDown.

Since moving to Raw, Cesaro has worked as a solo competitor after a long time and still seems to be at the top of his game. Arguably one of the best wrestlers in WWE, and the best pound-for-pound wrestler around, Cesaro should be getting much more than he is at the moment.

Cesaro has beaten Cedric Alexander and Ricochet since moving to Raw and lost a match to Ricochet in the process.

Now is the time for WWE to focus on Cesaro’s rise again, and give him a mid-card championship run before moving him into the Universal Championship picture.

Cesaro is one of the fan-favorites in WWE, and not a single person doubts his talent, which will be beneficial for WWE to cash in now.

#2 The Miz

After getting into a tag team with Shane McMahon and turning face, The Miz has significantly lost his value on the main roster.

As one of the best entertainers in WWE, The A-Lister deserves much better than losing matches to Shane McMahon and other superstars. The Miz’s best work has come as a heel, and WWE could focus on that in the months to come.

Since WWE already gave him a chance to get a spot to contend for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown, it’s time they can step it down a little bit for him.

The Miz could significantly improve the value of the United States Championship and also be the perfect face to get into a rivalry against Samoa Joe after winning it.

After moving to Raw, we expect The Miz to play a great role in improving the show’s ratings, and he can definitely do so while holding a title.

#1 Dominick

Will Mysterio's son rise up to the occasion?
Will Mysterio's son rise up to the occasion?

One of the unlikely choices which could help WWE build on a storyline. We have already seen Samoa Joe talk down to Rey Mysterio’s son Dominick in recent weeks and also threaten the kid.

Since Dominick is already in the middle of the story between Joe and Mysterio, he could prove to be the perfect man to hold the title, only to piss Samoa Joe off even more.

WWE could make this happen by either making Mysterio hand down the championship to his son or letting him win a match. They could also schedule a Battle Royal for the title which Dominick could win or a match against Joe.

This would help build a solid storyline between Mysterio, his son, and Joe which was reaching its boiling point before Mysterio suffered an unfortunate injury.

Dominick has already trained to become a professional wrestler and this could prove to be the perfect time to introduce him to the mix of superstars.
