3 talented stars left off the card of Extreme Rules

Extreme Rules heads your way this Sunday

On Sunday, WWE takes Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center by storm as Extreme Rules takes center stage. Philadelphia is regarded as the home of ECW, hence it serves as the perfect location for Extreme Rules. Extreme Rules is expected to run for around six hours, with two hours reserved for the Kick-Off Show. It will stream live on pay-per-view and the WWE Network, which is absolutely free for new subscribers.

Extreme Rules is often dubbed as ''The One Night of the Year When WWE Goes Extreme", and this year's event shall be no different. A number of matches are scheduled, and quite a few of them have hardcore stipulations.

At the annual Extreme Rules pay-per-view, the real-life couple of Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch will take on the team of Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans. This mixed tag-team match will be an Extreme Rules match where the winners will take both the Universal and Raw Women's titles.

The unlikely duo of The Undertaker and Roman Reigns will look to conquer the abominable alliance of Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre in a No Holds Barred tag -team match.

Kofi Kingston will look to defend his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe, Ricochet will defend his United States Championship against AJ Styles and Braun Strowman will square off with Bobby Lashley in a Last Man Standing match. Many more matches are scheduled for the card, but these are the ones that fans are most excited for.

As WWE has such a loaded roster, it is nearly impossible to give everyone a match on a pay-per-view. Having said that, a number of talented individuals may not compete at Extreme Rules.

Here's a look at 3 talented stars who may be left off the card of Extreme Rules 2019.

#3 Finn Balor

For two straight pay-per-views, The Intercontinental Champion isn't scheduled for a match. Finn Balor was left off the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view last month, and he is likely to miss Extreme Rules now. Balor does have an ongoing feud with Shinsuke Nakamura. Many fans expected this match to be added to the Extreme Rules card, but it hasn't been officially announced as of yet.

It is completely understandable that not every rivalry can get time on pay-per-view, but this is Nakamura and Balor we're talking about. Balor and Nakamura are two immensely talented stars and they deserved to square off at Extreme Rules for the IC title. WWE could add this match at the last minute, but it should have been announced beforehand.

Balor is the Intercontinental Champion, and there's no reason for a star of his caliber to be left off two consecutive pay-per-views. WWE hasn't done justice to Balor and his Intercontinental Championship.

#2 Rey Mysterio

This past week on Monday Night Raw, Rey Mysterio finally returned from injury after a month-long hiatus. He suffered a shoulder injury at Money in the Bank, moments after he had just won the US Championship. Due to his injury, he was forced to relinquish the title.

Upon return, Mysterio issued an open challenge which would ultimately come back to haunt him. Bobby Lashley answered the challenge, made quick work of Mysterio and absolutely decimated him in a post-match assault.

Given that Mysterio just came back from injury, they probably have nothing worth-while planned for him. He has suffered quite a few injuries lately and his injuries have forced WWE to scrap many story-lines. WWE may be unwilling to trust an injury-prone star like Mysterio, hence they are reluctant to put him in key story-lines.

The chances of Mysterio having a match at Extreme Rules are slim. He could always be a part of a backstage segment or an interview. Unless WWE puts him in an impromptu match, Mysterio is likely to sit out of Extreme Rules.

#1 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens cut an awesome promo on SmackDown Live this week.

Kevin Owens has turned from a stale heel to the hottest babyface in a matter of two weeks. Owens turned face on last week's edition of SmackDown Live after attacking Dolph Ziggler, who had cost him a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships by being pinned by one-half of Heavy Machinery. Owens would berate Shane McMahon the following week in an awesome promo that was reminiscent of CM Punk's infamous "Pipebomb".

Owens would stun Shane at the end of the match, establishing himself as the hottest babyface in WWE. WWE would have been smart to schedule a match between Owens and Ziggler, but that it could always be added as an impromptu match.

Given that Owens is so over and popular right now, WWE would be wise to have him appear in some sort of capacity at Extreme Rules. He could go after Shane again in a backstage interview, he may decide to decimate Dolph Ziggler, or he may attack Shane during his tag-team match against The Undertaker and Roman Reigns.
