3 things WWE got right on this week's RAW and 2 they got wrong (January 21st, 2019)

Another RAW is in the history books, and what a truly colossal show it was.

The go-home show for the annual Royal Rumble pay per view, this week's show saw more appearances from the NXT graduates, as well as an epic Tag Team Championship match.

With the Royal Rumble pay per view now just days away, every man and woman in the RAW locker-room was aiming to prove themselves before the historic event.

The Rumble matches are a golden ticket for WWE Superstars, a guaranteed championship match at WrestleMania 35, and a chance to make history in the process.

But before we get to WrestleMania, or the 32nd annual Royal Rumble show, we need to look back at this week's RAW which had plenty of good and bad.

Here are three things the WWE got right on this week's RAW, and two things that could've been a lot better.

#5 Got it right: Rousey can be hurt

She may not have been pinned, but this loss will stick with the RAW Women's Champion.
She may not have been pinned, but this loss will stick with the RAW Women's Champion.

Since debuting in WWE, Ronda Rousey has been an unstoppable machine.

Winning in her first match at WrestleMania 34, the former UFC star captured the RAW Women's Championship at Summerslam in convincing fashion.

Whilst these wins have given the Hot Rod a legion of fans, many have criticized Rousey and WWE for having her be unbeatable.

Losing in a tag match this week, must no doubt affect the Champion ahead of her title match this Sunday against Sasha Banks.

Whilst very few people, if any, expect the Boss to regain the title she last held in 2017, it is good to see the Hot Rod taken down a peg, with many expecting Rousey to face Becky Lynch at WrestleMania.

#4 Got it wrong: The woes of Mahal

Mahal's star has fallen considerably over the last year.
Mahal's star has fallen considerably over the last year.

Jinder Mahal's return to WWE in 2016 came as a huge shock and was topped when he won the WWE Championship at Backlash 2017.

Holding the title for months, Mahal proved that he was no longer the jobber he was before his 2014 release and could be taken seriously.

Someone should tell WWE that, as I can't even recall the last time the modern-day Maharaja won a match.

Teaming up with the Singh brothers to face the Lucha House Party this week, it's clear that the WWE has no idea what to do with the former WWE Champion, and are now just putting him in random matches to kill time.

His WWE Championship victory may have been a huge shock, but it wouldn't be too shocking if Mahal found himself released from WWE this year.

#3 Got it right: The NXT Graduates continue to rise

Lacey Evans announces her participation in the 30-Woman Royal Rumble match.

It may seem strange to have the NXT Graduates appear on WWE TV and not wrestle (with the exception of Nikki Cross), the Superstars from the developmental brand have certainly been leaving an impact.

With EC3 appearing on RAW and SmackDown Live in recent weeks, and Nikki Cross making her RAW debut last week, fans wondered who would step up tonight.

Tonight, it was Heavy Machinery who arrived on Monday Night RAW, crushing the Ascension, though they may be worried about their futures after squashing one of NXT's most popular teams.

Lacey Evans also made her presence known in a big way, announcing her participation in the upcoming Women's Rumble match, and could certainly shock the world if she was to win the historic match in her main-roster in-ring debut.

#2 Got it wrong: The Revival, again!

Zack Ryder made the save after the Revival DQ'd themselves.

It seems every week when I write this feature, the Revival lose a match.

And whilst they have transitioned from losing to the Lucha House Party to losing in high-profile matches, a loss is still a loss.

Facing Roode and Gable for the RAW Tag Team Championships (again), the former NXT Tag Champions hoped that special guest referee Curt Hawkins, who is no stranger to being held down, would help them out.

Not long into the match though, the team of Dash and Dawson turned on the ref, causing the disqualification and making themselves seem like idiots.

The only positive to all of this is that it was Zack Ryder who saved Hawkins, seemingly reuniting the pair who last teamed in 2008, and host a podcast together where they discuss WWE Action Figures.

#1 Got it right: Balor Club vs. the world

The Extraordinary Man destroyed Lesnar ahead of their title match this Sunday.
The Extraordinary Man destroyed Lesnar ahead of their title match this Sunday.

Having Finn Balor replace Braun Strowman as Brock Lesnar's Royal Rumble opponent may have been one of the smartest decisions in recent company history.

Whilst Strowman remains popular with fans, it is clear his popularity is waning, as the WWE Universe have gotten tired of seeing the Monster Among Men lose to the Beast Incarnate.

Appearing on this week's RAW, Balor vowed to bring the Universal Championship back to RAW, though was belittled by Vince McMahon, Braun Strowman and even Lesnar himself.

Refusing to let the odds get to him, the Irishman is confident of his abilities ahead of the Rumble, even being able to take it to the Beast.

If the stars align this Sunday, we may just see the demon emerge, as the new WWE Universal Champion.
