Soon after WrestleMania 22, Vince and Shane McMahon continued their rivalry with Shawn Michaels. The Chairman also had a beef with Triple H, who blamed Vince for his WWE title losses. This led to Vince forcing Triple H to compete in a Gauntlet match against The Spirit Squad. The match saw Shawn Michaels coming out and reforming DX with Triple H, much to Vince McMahon's dismay.

Over the next several months, DX feuded with the McMahons. Triple H and Michaels played a bunch of pranks on Vince, which included painting a large DX logo on the WWE Headquarters. The feud culminated in a huge Handicap Hell in a Cell match at WWE Unforgiven, with the McMahons and Big Show taking on Triple H and HBK. In the end, DX managed to defeat the villainous trio, thus coming out victorious in the feud. DX went on to start a feud with the newly-formed Rated-RKO, consisting of Edge and Randy Orton.

He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
