On the road to WrestleMania 25 in 2009, Randy Orton snapped and began targeting the McMahon family. This resulted in him brutally attacking Vince, Stephanie, and Shane McMahon on WWE TV. The attacks prompted Triple H to come out and exact revenge for Orton's dastardly deeds. Thus setting up the main event of WrestleMania. For the next several weeks, Triple H and Orton collided on various occasions, which included The Game invading Orton's home on an episode of RAW.

Mere days before WrestleMania 25, Randy Orton cut a promo about how he was going to end Triple H at The Show of Shows, and win the WWE title. To his horror, Triple H and the McMahon came out on stage to a loud pop. The trio made short work of the security, and went on to attack Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted Dibiase. It was certainly a rare sight, as both Triple H and Vince McMahon had joined forces to fend off one of the biggest villains in all of WWE. At WrestleMania 25, Triple H defeated Orton in the main event and retained his WWE title.
