3 times WWE let Brock Lesnar break the rules

The Beast Incarnate - Vince McMahon's favourite superstar?

Brock Lesnar seems to be one of Vince McMahon's most favored WWE Superstar, and definitely has a set of separate rules which apply to him.

Very few superstars would get away with the violations as well as other actions which Lesnar escapes punishment for, and this is something which is becoming more and more apparent. There can be no doubt that Vince McMahon wants Brock Lesnar to remain within the WWE, and is willing to overlook a lot of his transgressions in order to keep Lesnar happy.

This has been something which has seen Lesnar turn the WWE into his own personal amusement park, where he pretty much does as he pleases and gets away with it. From negotiating very handsome payments and lucrative contracts to defending the title only a handful number of times a year - Lesnar seems to be the WWE's exception to the rules.

In this article we will take a look at three occasions when the WWE overlooked Lesnar's actions, and when their policies seemingly did not apply to him.

#1 Intentionally cutting himself at WrestleMania 31

The PG era saw intentional bleeding (or bloodletting) disappear from the WWE. There were instances when superstars did still bleed during matches, but these were usually just accidental and unplanned. The concept of superstars intentionally cutting themselves during matches was one which no longer existed.

Someone may have forgotten to mention that to Brock Lesnar. Or maybe they did, but he didn't care. During his match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31, Lesnar decided to break this company rule and intentionally cut himself.

Video footage of the match did emerge showing the referee handing Reigns something which resembled a blade. Reigns would then go on to pass this to Lesnar who was then suddenly bleeding when the cameras were on him.

This move did a lot to make Reigns look like a genuine powerhouse, and a serious threat to Lesnar's title defense. But it was still a move which was in direct violation of company policy. Remarkably however, Lesnar escaped the incident without any punishment at all.

#2 The 30 day defense rule

You'd be forgiven for not knowing this, but there's a regulation in-place in the WWE, it states that main roster champions must defend their titles every 30 days or they'll be forced to drop the championship belt. This is one rule which clearly does not apply to Brock Lesnar.

It has been one of the most frustrating decisions the WWE has taken in recent times, but Lesnar has somehow managed to get his way by defending the title only a few times each year.

Lesnar defends the title so rarely that superstars have been injured and returned in less time than the gap between his title defenses. Finn Balor would be wishing this rule applied to him when he got injured.

This rule is one of the biggest exceptions the WWE has ever made regarding a superstar, and it has seen their viewership ratings plummet in recent months.

If it were any other superstar - he would have been stripped of the belt a long time ago. Kurt Angle teased stripping Lesnar of the title on an episode of Monday Night Raw, but let's be honest, every WWE fan knows there is no way Lesnar will ever be stripped of the title. If the WWE had any intention of doing that, it would have been done a long time ago.

#3 Violating their wellness policy

The WWE has always emphasized the importance of their wellness policy, their commitment to ensuring that superstars comply with the policy, and that action will be taken against those superstars who do decide to violate it. This was yet another rule which did not apply to Brock Lesnar.

After his UFC 200 win over Mark Hunt, Lesnar was flagged for a potential failed drug test in July 2016. A month later it was confirmed that Lesnar had in fact tested positive for a banned estrogen blocker in the build up to the Hunt fight.

As a result, the Nevada State Athletic Commission charged Lesnar with a $250,000 fine and a 12-month suspension, as well as converting his victory to a no contest.

The WWE should have also taken action against Lesnar, as this constituted a violation of their wellness policy. Instead, the WWE declared that Lesnar was exempt from section 17 of the company's abuse and drug testing regulations due to him being a part-timer.

As a result of this, Lesnar was yet again able to walk away from a policy violation without any damage.
