So Bobby Lashley, the Dominator, is back in the WWE.
To be fair, the fans did see it coming as the speculation was rife in and around Mania time that he would be re-signing with the WWE.
However, his debut didn't exactly have the 'oomph' factor to it that, say, the Hardy Boyz' surprise appearance at WrestleMania 33 had.
Everyone saw that one coming too. But the pop was roof-raising nonetheless.
So did the WWE miss a beat by having Lashley debut lowkey on Raw the next night against Elias?
I'm inclined to think so.
Especially when they could have chosen any one among the 3 ways that follow which - in my opinion - would have provided a much better platform to reintroduce him to the WWE Universe in a more impactful way.
As part of the Greatest Royal Rumble match
The 50-man Royal Rumble event was, honestly, a bit of a downer for me because it was overcooked, too long and lacked any real seminal moments that made you sit up and pay attention.
Especially since it lacked the one main ingredient that makes a Royal Rumble event tick over - surprise entrances.
Even though Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho did take part in the match, they were advertised in advance and the NXT Superstars (and one Sumo wrestler) that did show up unannounced didn't really get the crowd going either.
Perhaps since the WWE knew that they were going to Saudi all along to pull off this mega show, holding back Bobby Lashley's debut till the event may have been a smart move in hindsight.
It would have injected the 50-man Royal Rumble event with a surprise entrance that people would have legitimately popped for and made Lashley himself come across as a big deal by eliminating a handful of Superstars, instead of just having him make a low key debut on Raw against Elias.
As Strowman's partner at WM 34

Now as the dirtsheets report it, this may well have been the original plan for Bobby Lashley when he signed on with the WWE.
Perhaps fearing that the fans were already on to it, the WWE went with the double swerve and had a 10-year old Nicholas partner Strowman...who pretty much single-handedly obliterated Cesaro and Sheamus and destroyed all the credibility that the Bar had built up for months.
Now if the WWE did want the Bar to put over Strowman and his partner, it would have espoused so much more believability for them to stare at the lights for the team of Strowman and Lashley.
It would have given Lashley the perfect high-profile platform for return, Strowman would have won the Tag Titles without making the former Champions (and the whole Tag Team division on Raw by extension) like a joke and the crowd would have been happy that the babyfaces got one over the heels.
Really, there wasn't much downside to this at all.
Showing up after the Brock Lesnar v Roman Reigns match at GRR

Apparently - and this could obviously not be true - it is rumoured that when Lashley signed on with the WWE, that it was with the understanding that all roads lead to Brock Lesnar.
I mean who doesn't want to see that fight right?
Both Lesnar and Lashley are legitimate mixed martial artists and they're both absolute powerhouses inside the ring.
And it makes all the more sense to match them up now that Lesnar has practically laid waste to the entire WWE roster, including the man billed as the last bastion of hope to relieve the Beast of the WWE Universal Title, Roman Reigns.
So instead of having a screwy finish to the Reigns - Lesnar match at GRR, the WWE could just have had Lesnar go over cleanly and Bobby Lashley make his debut to confront him after the match.
