Being the most prestigious title in WWE, the WWE Championship is defended in every major pay-per-view. Royal Rumble, one of the big four shows of the company, is going host the thirty-second edition of the pay-per-view, and it could be disappointing for the fans if the WWE Championship is not defended this year. While Lesnar already stated that he will not defend the title at Royal Rumble, WWE loves to make last-minute changes to surprise the fans.

Traditionally, Royal Rumble is known to provide a title shot to the winner of the match. However, there were instances, when the WWE Championship was on the line in the match itself. Ric Flair won the vacant WWE Championship by winning the Royal Rumble in 1992. Similarly, Triple H also became the WWE Champion, winning the WWE Championship that Roman Reigns was forced to defend in 2016.

The WWE Champion himself will be part of the Royal Rumble match this time around, thus opening up the possibility of a title defense. Given Lesnar has defied the company, either Vince McMahon or Triple H might force him to defend the WWE Championship in the Battle Royal match, and it will certainly garner more attention from the fans.
