Asuka is the reigning, defending, undisputed WWE Smackdown Women's Champion. She won the championship in a TLC match that also included former champion Becky Lynch, and presumptive Royal Rumble match favorite, Charlotte Flair. She is currently in her first reign as champion.
She will defend her championship at the 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view against The Man Becky Lynch. Lynch is a two-time Smackdown Women's Champion and was also the first ever Smackdown Women's Champion. She is also arguably the hottest babyface in the entire company.
As of now, this match is going to be a face versus face encounter. Lynch may be the hottest babyface in the entire company, but Asuka is also an immensely popular superstar in her own right. Asuka is also considered one of the most intimidating and menacing superstars in all of WWE, so what if she played into that?
What if she and Becky Lynch brawled, and Asuka went too far? What if Asuka injured Becky Lynch so that Becky Lynch was not a 100% for their title match?
It would make their championship match at the Royal Rumble more heated, give the fans a clear babyface to cheer for, protect Becky Lynch in a loss, and enter the women's Royal Rumble match.
