5 Worst WWE Women's matches at WrestleMania

If rumours are to be believed, the WWE RAW Women's Championship match is going to headline WrestleMania 35. It will be historic for female wrestlers everywhere if the biggest event in wrestling ends with either Ronda Rousey, Charlotte or Becky Lynch holding aloft the Women's title to put the exclamation point on the show.

There was a time not long ago that women's matches at Wrestlemania were just speciality matches intended as nothing more than a breather between high stakes matches involving men.

While it is certainly an improvement to see women's wrestling being taken seriously in the WWE, it cannot be appreciated to the full extent unless we look back at how the Divas were treated in the first place.

This list takes a look at three worst Women's matches in Wrestlemania history

#5 Miller Lite Pillow Fight - Wrestlemania 19

Wrestlemania 19 was a strong even, headlined by an all-time classic between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar and supported by the final confrontation between Austin and The Rock, Jericho vs Michaels and Hogan vs McMahon, the card was favorably rated by critics.

A stacked roster meant that the World Tag team title match featuring Kane and Rob Van Dam vs The Dudley Boyz vs Chief Morley and Lance Storm was sadly relegated to Sunday Night Heat. But what did air on the main show was the ridiculous fatal four-way pillow fight featuring Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler and two models from a Miller Lite Beer advertising campaign.

It was nothing more than a publicity stunt and WWE did make sweet money from Miller Lite for allowing the models to show up and have a match at WrestleMania. But it was a stinker of a match, which wasn't even contested inside the ring - but near the stage.

The match ended in a no-contest when all four ladies attacked host Jonathan Coachman and pinned him, but it was the sell-out crowd in Seattle that were the real losers.

#4 Torrie Wilson vs Candice Michelle - Wrestlemania 22

Another Playboy Pillowfight happened at WrestleMania 22 and this once again featured Torrie Wilson, this time taking on Candice Michelle. The second to last match on the card, this at least provided some downtime for viewers between the two World title matches.

The card already had another Women's match which featured Mickie James capturing the Women's title from Trish Stratus in a decent match. Candice and Torrie were never expected to have a great match and they definitely did not. At least the match wasn't too long

The match had its usual shenanigans with a bed fixed in the middle of the ring. Torrie would bring in her pet dog and rub its backside on Candice's face and after the usual supposedly crowd-pleasing moments that happen in a pillow fight match, Wilson pinned Candice with a roll-up to end the match in less than four minutes.

#3 Torrie & Sable vs Stacy & Jackie - Wrestlemania 20

Torrie Wilson has a pretty good record at WrestleMania, she added another win to her Mania career when she teamed up with Sable to beat Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie to win the 'Playboy Evening Gown' match at Wrestlemania 20. The match was built on the jealousy that RAW divas Stacy and Jackie had due to Wilson and Sable posing for Playboy.

The match had a number of (attempted) rolling pinfall spots and Stacy even used a corner choke at one point. As usual, the referee was only dragged into the melee and it ended with Wilson picking up another Wrestlemania victory with a roll up - this time on Jackie.

The fact that Jackie was in the ring at Wrestlemania 20 whereas Trish Stratus and Lita were not booked to have a match tells you all you need to know. At least there was another women's title match on the card which featured Victoria vs Molly Holly.

#2 The Kat vs Terri Runnels - Wrestlemania 16

WrestleMania 16 can well be considered one of the worst 'Manias of all time. Headlined by a dragging 36-minute four-way elimination WWE Championship match, the only saving grace for the event was the legendary triangle ladder match for the WWE Tag team Championship involving the Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian.

The event has also been ridiculed for having just one singles match on the card - but that was the worse match of the night as it featured Terri Runnels and The Kat having a Catfight. The objective was to throw the other person to the ringside area to win the match and a painful to watch contest ensued.

With Mae Young and Fabulous Moolah at ringside to provide some gross-out laughs by attempting to seduce referee Val Venis, the match lasted just over two minutes with Terri picking up the victory.

#1 Ms.Wrestlemania Battle Royal - Wrestlemania 25

WrestleMania 25 basically devalued multiple things during its run-time. The Intercontinental title match ended in 21 seconds, the big match to unify the WWE and World Tag team titles was relegated to the pre-show and a battle royal to crown the greatest Diva in WrestleMania history ended up being won by a man.

While the show was saved by a classic Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker match, it proclaimed that the Divas division was nothing more than a joke.

In the build-up to the Ms. WrestleMania battle royal, WWE promised to crown the greatest female performer in WrestleMania history after the match. Many retired Divas made their way back to the company for the match. While the return of the likes of Sunny, Molly Holly and Torrie Wilson were appreciated by the fans, both Trish Stratus and Lita decided to stay away, bringing down the legitimacy of the contest.

The match ended up coming down to Beth Phoenix, Melina and -- ' a man in drag'. Santino Marella who had dressed up as a woman for (Supposedly) providing comic relief eliminated both Beth and Melina and was crowned Ms. WrestleMania as Candice Michelle crowned 'Santina' as the best female performer in WrestleMania history.
