3 WrestleMania matches WWE could be planning for the NXT call ups

Could Black face the Phenom at the Grandest Stage Of Them All?
Could Black face the Phenom at the Grandest Stage Of Them All?

WWE made waves a couple of weeks ago by calling up four of NXT's best to the main roster - Aleister Black, Tommaso Ciampa, Ricochet, and Johnny Gargano.

Follow Sportskeeda for the latest WWE news, rumors and all other wrestling news.

They'll be working all three brands for now, but for Black, Ricochet, and Ciampa, the recent set of NXT tapings suggests that they're all set to wrap up their service on the yellow brand come TakeOver: New York, making them permanent fixtures after WrestleMania 35.

The surprise call ups supposedly came because Vince McMahon laments the lack of star power on Raw and SmackDown.

As a result, he would be pushing all four guys heavily. Those rumors have borne fruit so far, given their victories over established names over two weeks.

But if the idea is to really push these guys as stars, then we must turn our thoughts to what they'll be doing at WrestleMania 35.

I'll leave Johnny Gargano out of this because he looks set to finally capture the NXT Championship at TakeOver two nights before. Here are some matches WWE could be planning for the other three.

#3 Ricochet vs. Finn Balor

It's on the line!
It's on the line!

Supposedly, Vince McMahon penciled this match on Raw two weeks ago, only for Triple H to talk him out of it. There's no doubt that Triple H was correct. It was far too early.

WrestleMania 35 is a different ballgame.

Ricochet vs. Finn Balor is a dream match if there ever was one. We would be in store for unreal displays of speed and athleticism. WrestleMania would be as appropriate a place as any to air such a spectacle.

Realistically, there aren't many one on one matches for mid-card titles on the Show of Shows these days.

WWE might choose to do a multi-man or ladder match instead. Ricochet would shine in either setting, particularly a ladder one. His singles match with Finn Balor could then be set up for later on.

#2 Tommaso Ciampa vs. Kurt Angle

Waving goodbye to a career.
Waving goodbye to a career.

Rumors are swirling that Kurt Angle is going to have his retirement match at WrestleMania 35.

There are generally two ways to do these things. You can either have a heartfelt, respectful affair, as we saw with Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24, or you can use the opportunity to give somebody a rub.

When it comes to retiring a legend like Angle, WWE has an opportunity to give someone a rub, but it shouldn't be just anybody. It could be used as an opportunity to establish someone who could be the most hated heel on the main roster for years to come.

Enter Tommaso Ciampa.

He's likely going to lose "goldie" at TakeOver, which would put him in an even fouler mood. Ciampa could terrorize and taunt Angle, telling the old man it's time to go home so the spotlight can go on the Greatest Sports Entertainer of All Time.

The thunderous boos Ciampa would receive in such a match from a football stadium full of people is an entertaining thought all on its own.

For a company obsessed with heat and supposedly looking to build a new star, this would be a no brainer.

Ciampa would get an instant rub that would establish him as one of the most hated and dangerous people on the main roster, a great antagonist to the likes of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and AJ Styles.

#1 Aleister Black vs. The Undertaker

Dark meets dark
Dark meets dark

The rumors about Undertaker swirl every year. This time around, there's more to chew on, as he's been doing some out of character media appearances and is even set to appear at Starrcast, an event loosely affiliated with the fledgling All Elite Wrestling.

This revelation supposedly rattled Vince McMahon, to the point where WWE may be scrambling to get him on the WrestleMania card, despite having no plans for him beforehand.

An intriguing possibility presents itself with Aleister Black now up on the main roster.

The actual match would need to be carried by Black, but the mind games leading into it could be a lot of fun to watch.

WWE seems highest on Blackout of all the recent call ups. He got a vignette before anyone did, defeated Andrade "Cien" Almas on SmackDown last week, and took the victory for him and Ricochet both times this week, flattening Shinsuke Nakamura with the Black Mass on SmackDown.

If the idea is to push these guys as stars, having Aleister Black defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania would be about as big a rub as anyone can get.
