Asuka has had a rather quiet year in WWE, despite winning the SmackDown Women's title. She had an incredible record where she was undefeated for 914 days in WWE, which was eventually broken by Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34.

She also held the NXT Women's Championship for 510 days - the longest reign for the title, and didn't lose it but had to relinquish it due to injury.

The Japanese Superstar eventually moved to the main roster in 2017, and has switched between RAW and SmackDown, and throughout her WWE run, has been a babyface.

Many of her fans feel that she has not been used properly on the main roster and not given enough time or a run with a title to show what she is really capable of.

There were rumours doing the rounds last year that WWE had cancelled plans of turning Asuka heel, which they had reportedly had discussions about. But WWE shelved the idea after Becky Lynch's successful heel turn last year and WWE focussed all their energies on Lynch instead of Asuka, when both Lynch and Asuka were on SmackDown Live.

Asuka is currently tag teaming with Kairi Sane, and it remains to be seen if the Asuka will turn heel once she becomes a singles star once again. While the Empress of Tomorrow has been a heel during her time in NXT, she has yet to turn on the main roster.
