205 Live is the exclusive show of the superstars weighing under 205 pounds, also known as the Cruiserweights. WWE introduced this show back in late 2016 after the first edition of the Cruiserweight Classic. This show, which WWE loves to call as the most exciting hour of wrestling, airs on Tuesday nights after SmackDown Live.

The purple brand of WWE had a lukewarm start as the fans did not show much interest in the division because of the show’s poor booking. There were random heel turns, random title changes and almost no character development for the superstars. Suddenly, 10-15 new superstars entered WWE and the company marketed them as their most athletic superstars. But as we all know the show failed, and it failed to an extent that WWE even thought of scrapping the show.

However, it still airs on the WWE Network with Drake Maverick being the show’s General Manager. Not all fans look at the Cruiserweights’ show as the best wrestling show of the company and so, here are four ways how WWE can make the Cruiserweight division and 205 Live the showcase of the promotion.

#4 Have the Cruiserweight Division's mid-carders feature on PPVs

Superstars like Cedric Alexander and Hideo Itami can light up WWE's pay-per-views

If you watch every WWE pay-per-view, you might have observed that apart from the Cruiserweight Championship, there are no other matches from 205 Live. Even the Championship match takes place on the pre-show most of the time. This shows the level to which WWE ignores its most exciting superstars.

Instead of booking meaningless matches on PPVs from the main roster, WWE can have 1 or 2 matches from the 205 Live show, at least on the B pay-per-views, to give them some spotlight in front of the WWE Universe.

#3 Book more events like the Worlds Collide

This will also help the WWE get more people to subscribe to the WWE Network
This will also help the WWE get more people to subscribe to the WWE Network

WWE recently organized an event named as ‘Worlds Collide’ featuring the top superstars from NXT UK, NXT and 205 Live. 15 superstars competed in a tournament which saw NXT superstar, Velveteen Dream emerge as the winner after he defeated Tyler Bate in the final.

There were 5 Cruiserweight superstars in this tournament, but none of them were able to reach the semi-finals. So, going forward WWE can build story-lines surrounding the Worlds Collide tournament on all the three shows. Just like RAW and SmackDown Live, WWE can intensify these WWE Network exclusive shows’ rivalry by having this type of a tournament at least twice in a year.

Inter-brand rivalry has always drawn more fans than a single brand’s superstars competing against each other. This would also give the superstars who are not in the title picture a reason to compete and slowly, all of 205 Live’s matches would have some relevant storyline and reason to take place.

The wrestling quality of the cruiserweight division has never been in question it has always been the storyline which has let the fans down. So, this booking division can elevate the division’s status.

#2 Announce the Cruiserweight Division's return to RAW

Even a single multi-man match (not tag team match) featuring the Cruiserweights can make RAW's quality better
Even a single multi-man match (not tag team match) featuring the Cruiserweights can make RAW's quality better

The WWE Universe has always complained about the poor quality of the third hour of RAW. It is not the third hour which is boring, it is the second hour which leads to the fans tuning out before the third hour of the show begins. Random repeated tag team matches and meaningless segments having little character development lead to the fans tuning out.

Instead of booking these segments, WWE can allot 15-20 minutes to the Cruiserweights and book a multi-man match with some stakes to grab more eyes towards the division. When this division used to feature on RAW earlier, the WWE Creative made the characters boring by booking them in tag team matches with no real stakes.

Having a fatal 4-way or a fatal 5-way match every alternate week on RAW with the winner getting a title shot on 205 Live would not only make RAW more watchable but would also draw more viewers towards 205 Live.

#1 Have the Authority take over the show and introduce main roster stars on it

Triple H can take over the position of Drake Maverick and can introduce Finn Balor on the show

Drake Maverick has been doing a good job as the show’s manager but bolstering the division with the Authority as its decision makers would really make it the showcase of WWE. The fan favorite Triple H can take over that role and can change the landscape of the entire division.

Also, he could introduce some main roster stars like Finn Balor, Rey Mysterio, Goldust (who has earlier wrestled on 205 Live) on the show to give the roster some much-needed star power.

Balor and Mysterio are two of the greatest in-ring technicians and they would just make the show more excellent. Thus, on implementation of these changes the Cruiserweight division can become the showcase of WWE.
