WWE is taking an entirely different direction with NXT 2.0. There was a lot of fuss about the overhaul and rebranding of NXT, and the new direction seems to be complete.

The company is reportedly looking to make it a program with edgier and more mature content. Now that it's a developmental program again, more changes need to be made to secure good ratings on the USA Network.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE is still in talks to change NXT to a TV-14 rating and to move away from the current PG rating. They also stated that USA Network is not opposed to the change at all:

We hope this is true because edgier and more mature content means that they will give superstars a bit more leeway to be themselves on TV and to let their personality shine.

Although the rebranding to NXT 2.0 might have been an unpopular decision to many fans, this might be what the promotion needs to secure better ratings for the brand as well as improve the development of younger superstars.
