For every hero, there’s a villain. Batman wouldn't be Batman if there was no Joker. Similarly in WWE, for every Lex Luger, there was a Ric Flair. For any good guy to come on top, you always need a great heel.

2017, saw a fair number of heels who were thoroughly hated by fans worldwide. Here we look at 5 such performers who through their characters have let us cheer for the babyface.

#5 Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

The Authority
The Authority

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are brilliant in their heel persona. They act as good old heel dictators who give the heroes an authority to rebel against. They are trying to portray two-faced authority figures who are corporate good guys but, are heels deep down.

The King of Kings and, The Billionaire Princess have always put young talent over, while maintaining their rude boss image. The crowd loves to hate them, fulfilling their purpose. Their recent feud against Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey has yet again put the babyfaces over and, the WWE Universe rallying behind them.

#4 Alexa Bliss

Five Feet of Fury

No woman wrestler can cut a promo as good as Alexa Bliss. She has made a name for herself as a heel, while still remaining a fan favorite. The current Raw Women's Champion is one of the most vicious heels in the entire WWE. She knows how to indulge with the crowd and her mic skills are a living testament to that.

Bliss' heel turn was perhaps the best decision by WWE for the Women's division. Along with mastering her gimmick, Bliss has put on consistently strong matches against the likes of Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Mickie James. With her arrogant character played to perfection, WWE might just have hit the jackpot.

#3 Tommaso Ciampa

This is his moment.

Tommaso Ciampa's heel turn was one of the most shocking moments of 2017. #DIY(Johnny Gargano and Ciampa), was the most liked tag-team in NXT. Ciampa attacked Gargano at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, which led to the beginning of a heated rivalry between the two.

There is no wrestler in WWE presently, who is hated more than Ciampa. At the recent NXT tapings, he was booed out of the building, thus attracting more heat from the crowd. He comes across as a psychopath who doesn't talk much but, is still expressive in telling a story.

WWE may have found a true villain in the form of The Blackheart

#2 The Miz

The A-lister

Ever since his debut in the WWE, The Miz has always been a brattish heel and a serious threat to the babyfaces. His mic skills are unparalleled and he has perfected his gimmick in recent years. He is a workhorse whose in-ring skills are underappreciated. He has established himself as one of the brightest stars on the main roster.

It took years for WWE to recognize the talent he possesses, and now they have a gem in the form of The Miz. He has helped fellow wrestlers like Damien Sandow, Alex Riley, and most recently The Miztourage(Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas) get some attention from the fans.

His promos are absolute gold, and Talking Smack was a prime example of it. The time he went off on SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan, got him real heat from the WWE Universe.

#1 Kevin Owens

The Prizefighter
The Prizefighter

Kevin Owens is undoubtedly the best heel in WWE today. From headbutting Mr. McMahon, to cutting an edgy promo on Shane McMahon, KO is a believable bad guy and not just a trash talker. He's great on the mic and is a terrific in-ring performer. Unlike traditional heels, Owens doesn't mind facing real competition and putting up a fight to get to the top.

The thing that sets Owens apart from other heels is his in-ring psychology. He is one of the best in WWE at telling a story within a match. His feuds with the likes of Chris Jericho and, Sami Zayn go on to show how good of a heel he is.
