WrestleMania, for the most part, is a week-long celebration as opposed to being just about the show itself. Fans travel from around the world in order to celebrate their love for professional wrestling, with the host city often pulling out all the stops in order to make a name for themselves.
While that’s all well and good, it is important to remember that the venue for Mania itself is incredibly important. As we all know WWE exclusively uses stadiums now due to the overwhelming success they’ve had over the last few decades, and with January usually being the month when they announce where next year’s event will be, it’s time to start speculating.
A few of these are more realistic than others but they’re all valid contenders, especially when you consider that the likes of the New Orleans Superdome and Citrus Bowl have played host to WrestleMania in recent years.
With that being said, here are our five best available venues for WrestleMania 35.
5) Lincoln Financial Field
Philadelphia is one of the greatest sporting cities on planet earth, and you won’t find many people who will contest that theory. With the passionate fans and the combat sports background alone you could make a case for them, but when you add in a 70,000 seater stadium that could reach 75,000 for Mania, it becomes a no-brainer.
With that being said, one of the factors that would prevent Philly from hosting the show of shows is that it would be an outdoor event in April. That kind of thing has worked before for WWE, as evidenced by WrestleMania 29, and with next year marking 20 years since Philly last held a Mania, it seems like an appropriate choice.
4) Wembley Stadium
This is an idea that has been thrown around more times than we can count, but in our opinion, it’s almost time to pull the trigger. Outside of North America, the United Kingdom is without a doubt the biggest market going for WWE and that’s been clear to see for quite some time now. The fans are insane, they travel in their numbers, and then you’ve got Wembley to consider.
It’s still a relatively new location given that it only opened in 2007, and while the logistics may be a bit difficult, thousands of Americans would definitely be up for making the trip across the pond. How do we know? Because enough of them come over for the NFL London Games, so just imagine what it’d be like for a once in a lifetime event like this.
3) U.S Bank Stadium
While Minneapolis may not be the most appealing market in terms of tourism, you can’t deny that the U.S Bank Stadium is an absolute revelation. It’s no wonder that the Super Bowl is being hosted there this year, and it also comes as no surprise to learn that WWE has been considering the stadium as a Mania venue for a few years now.
It seems like Vince is slowly warming to the idea of taking Mania to Minneapolis, and while some fans may not be happy with that, it would certainly break the impending rotation of going to the same city every few years. Plus, and this could be a big selling point, it’d be perfect for hosting Brock Lesnar’s inevitable retirement match.
2) Mercedes-Benz Stadium
We’ll come right out and say it: the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is absolutely beautiful. Sure, it may not have the kind of lineage that the Georgia Dome possessed, but as the years go by more and more memories are going to be created – and one of those memories could well be the showcase of the immortals.
WWE already brought their flagship show to Georgia back in 2011, and while it was a financial success, the event is considered to be one of the worst Manias in recent memory. You just know that Vinnie Mac will want to erase those memories, and with Atlanta also being the home of WCW, there are many possibilities when it comes to the Hall of Fame.
But seriously, in terms of the stadium, just look at it. Magnificent stuff.
1) MetLife Stadium
Not only is MetLife Stadium the leading contender to host WrestleMania 35 in our minds, but it’s also the bookmakers’ favourite too. The New Jersey venue played host to WM29 back in 2013, and while it may not have been the most entertaining show from start to finish, the visuals were absolutely sensational.
It may be a little bit cold and it may not actually be in New York City, but it’s still a phenomenal venue and would be perfect for a blockbuster event like WM35. After all, they had WrestleManias 1, 10 & 20 around that area, so why not do the same thing for 35?
With Raw 25 being right around the corner, this seems like a no-brainer for WWE.
