Io Shirai and Toni Storm will face off in the finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic. It seems likely that Io Shirai will defeat Toni Storm. She is supposed to be in the position that Kairi Sane currently is in.
Io Shirai was supposed to compete in and win the 2017 Mae Young Classic last year but as a result of an injury, she was unable to do so. This delayed her signing to WWE. If this injury never occurred, it is possible that Io Shirai would be NXT Women's Champion right now.
It seems like the stars are perfectly aligned for Io Shirai to complete her redemption story. However, it is possible that Toni Storm gets the huge upset. If Io Shirai wins she would basically be following Kairi Sane's path in WWE exactly. Therefore, Toni Storm might win the Mae Young Classic so that NXT UK can get some spotlight and so Toni Storm can redeem herself after losing in the semifinals last year.
