5 Botches, slip ups, and outrageous moments from WWE SmackDown (December 6th, 2016)

The Lunatic Fringe was so close yet again

WWE SmackDown had the difficult task of putting on a show without a medically cleared WWE World Champion. Even worse, this was a night he had a pre-determined title defence in the main event. Despite that handicap going into this broadcast, the show hit its normally high bar.

There were several decent to above average matches like the opening Tag Team Championship contest, as well as, Baron Corbin vs. Kalisto. Also, several segments `that accomplished their purpose. That Miz TV segment alone deserves kudos for being so hilarious and it will later in this article.

As usual, even with the plethora of reasons to praise a show like this, there will always be mishaps. On this Tuesday night, some of the more head-scratching incidents that happened include Nikki Bella entertaining her young celebrity friend and Fandango unsuccessfully attempting to interfere in a match.

Some of the following entries are flat out bitches, while some are simply outrageous moments that need to be experienced one more time. So go ahead and practice your participation award acceptance speeches, as we highlight 5 botches, slip ups, and outrageous moments from this episode of WWE SmackDown

#5 That chase sure ended abruptly

Natalya and Carmella were supposed to have a match. Instead, they brawled before the bell rang and Nattie chased The Staten Island Princess up the entrance ramp and into the back. This was an all out spring because Natalya is ticked off at Carmella for telling Nikki Bella that she was responsible for her recent Survivor Series attack.

When the production switched to the camera in the back, we then saw Natalya completely stopped for a brief moment. Then, she started walking again. What happened to Carmella? Why was Natalya stopped when she was just seen sprinting mere seconds before this?

#4 A.J. addresses the elephant in the room

A.J. Styles’ exposed butt cheek is technically a wardrobe botch carried over from TLC, but I can understand why the WWE World Champion would want to show it. If he’s the one cracking the jokes, then he can help put the embarrassing moment behind him.

He eventually moved on to a conversation with a now-delusional James Ellsworth, but this one last image of his behind was probably necessary to end the pants-hole debacle.

#3 Nikki and her small child friend

Help me out here because I’m sure this probably delightful child is adored by a huge audience somewhere, but what does this have to do with professional wrestling? Is this a new corporate policy that WWE is now letting random children wander around backstage and approach wrestlers while they’re being filmed?

This was such an incredibly forced segment between Nikki Bella and someone that Google tells me is called Sophia Grace. Apparently, she’s a YouTube star. She has a song or something coming out soon.

#2 Falling fashion police

Breezango handed out a slew of violations to American Alpha earlier in the day, claiming that they were guilty of a variety of faux pas. That was more than enough reason to have this singles match between Tyler Breeze and Chad Gable.

After getting clotheslined to the outside, Breeze’s buddy Fandango attempted to interfere illegally, but with no real success. He got tripped up on the cord of a nearby cameraman, ruining whatever interference he was planning.

This botch was apparently contagious because Mauro Ranallo got razzed by JBL for miscalling the line a microphone cord. That makes two botches for one entry, so it must be everyone’s lucky day.

#1 A major award

No doubt about it, this was outrageously funny. Miz presented Dean Ambrose with a participation award and it even included a blue ribbon that had the words “You Tried” printed on it.

What makes this even better, is that Lance Storm remarked on Twitter, how Dean’s Wikipedia page needed to be updated to reflect his new “accomplishment,” which totally happened. There was a brief time post-SmackDown when his “Championships and accomplishments” section had the Miz Participation Award listed a few spots below his WWE World & Intercontinental Championships.

It’s been changed back since, but here’s hoping that Wikipedia lightens up and let’s this one slide.
