5 crazy twists to expect in the Mae Young Classic finals

We're counting down to a showdown for the ages!
We're counting down to a women's showdown for the ages!

Women's wrestling has grown from strength to strength, from the time when women's matches were just a sideshow to being a featured attraction on pay-per-views. Women's wrestling is an integral part of independent promotions as well, and 32 decorated and novice performers showed their mettle in the inaugural edition of the Mae Young Classic.

It is heartening to see just how far women's wrestling has come, and the action is all set to reach new levels of 'awesome', in only a few hours as the Mae Young Classic arrives in Sin City, following this week's edition of SmackDown Live.

They say that the cream always rises to the top, and now we're left with Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler in the tournament finals. Without delving into the match at all, we'll consider the possibilities and ponder the events that could take place around the match, when the finals air live on the WWE Network from Vegas.

For an event of this magnitude, we're certain that WWE has a surprise (or five) up their sleeve. What crazy twists can we expect at the tournament finals, in that case? We present five compelling possibilities.

#5 The winner gets drafted to SmackDown Live

Could the winner completely bypass NXT?
Could the winner completely bypass NXT?

If you caught this week's edition of RAW, you probably saw vignettes announcing the arrival of Asuka to WWE's flagship show. We've seen Daniel Bryan match Kurt Angle at every step in the past. He would want a worthy acquisition for his brand as well, at least in storyline. Who better than the winner of the Mae Young Classic tournament, in that case?

This holds true, especially if Kairi Sane were to win the entire tournament. She's exceptional in the ring, and it is unlikely that she'll become much better when it comes to cutting promos in the English language. She could really help bolster the now unexciting SmackDown Live women's division.

Imagine the matches she could have with Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Naomi or even the women's champion, Natalya! The possibilities are truly quite endless.

#4 The winner becomes the new NXT Women's Champion!

Could one of these women hold the vacant NXT Championship belt?
Could one of these women hold the vacant NXT Championship belt?

Last week, after an emotional segment, we saw Asuka relinquishing her belt on NXT after a record breaking 523 days as the reigning and defending Women's Champion. The fact of the matter is that there is no NXT Women's Champion, right now.

Who better to fill the void than the winner of the prestigious Mae Young Classic tournament? It would certainly shake things up in the NXT landscape and make the future of the brand very unpredictable indeed.

While William Regal had stated that he'll need a few weeks to make his decision, we believe that WWE loves to swerve its fans. We wouldn't be surprised if Regal was to declare the tournament winner as the new champion! TJP was felicitated with the Cruiserweight Championship when he won the Cruiserweight Classic last year, after all.

#3 Ronda Rousey meets Stephanie McMahon again

This should be a very interesting face off indeed!
This should be a very interesting face off indeed!

The last time when Stephanie McMahon and Ronda Rousey came face to face, the former did not fare very well. This was, of course, at Wrestlemania 31, when The Rock and the UFC megastar lay the smack down on Stephanie McMahon and Triple H.

It is inevitable that we are heading towards a Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen clash, in the very near future. However, WWE could sow the seeds for a big time pay-per-view match between The Rock & Rousey against Triple H & Stephanie McMahon for a marquee event, very soon indeed. Maybe as soon as the Mae Young Classic finals.

Both these women will certainly be present at on this big night. Why pass up on a chance to work an angle that's staring WWE in the face, right now?

It will even get the mainstream sports channels talking, and that's something WWE absolutely thrives on, in this day and age.

#2 Alexa Bliss attacks Asuka

Could the Goddess be lying in wait for Asuka?
Could the Goddess be lying in wait for Asuka, in a few hours?

This week, we saw vignettes proclaiming that Asuka was on her way to the main roster! One woman who did not seem too enthused by this news was Raw Women's Champion, the gorgeous Alexa Bliss. One guesses that Asuka would be in attendance for a match of this magnitude. Especially when it features a fellow Japanese megastar in Kairi!

Could WWE sow the seeds for a program between the two women, by having Bliss attack Asuka while she's in attendance at the event? This would certainly cause quite a stir and gain babyface sympathy for the 'Empress of Tomorrow' before she comes to the main roster. This is because she's supposed to be injured, right now.

This would certainly shake things up at the Mae Young Classic Finals, and guarantee yet another headline from the big event! Also, who wouldn't want to see Alexa Bliss everywhere?

#1- Eight horsewomen exchanging blows

This is almost certainly going to happen!
This is almost certainly going to happen!

Shayna Baszler is already a competent sports entertainer. Ronda Rousey is training to be one, right now. We don't know about Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, but if we had to wager a guess, we'd probably say that they're training hard as well. The clash is inevitable. The Four Horsewomen of MMA and the Four Horsewomen of WWE are on a collision course, presumably for a huge match at Survivor Series!

Could Ronda Rousey do for women's wrestling what Mike Tyson did for the men, in the 90s? Could she attract millions of eyeballs to the product, one more time? We find out in only a few more hours!

Join us very soon for live coverage of the Mae Young Classic Finals, from Las Vegas. See you, folks!
