A few weeks ago, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was released from the company along with several other talents, as part of WWE's budget cuts amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Soon after, WWE surprised the fans by announcing that Angle would be officiating the Cage Fight pitting Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher on NXT. Riddle lost the match to his former partner.

Mere days later, Matt Riddle made his way to WWE SmackDown and the introduction was given by none other than Angle. It has come to light now that Angle was offered a role to become Riddle's manager, but the WWE veteran refused the offer.

He's phenomenal in the ring. There's no doubt about that. But his whole bro gimmick thing works really well. And he's going to do extremely well. WWE has offered me a job to manage him. Unfortunately, I turned it down due to a few different reasons, but I would have loved to manage him. It just wasn't the right time.
