Similarly to Adam Cole, AJ Styles also has a long history with members of The Elite, especially with Kenny Omega. A few years ago, at NJPW: New Year's Dash 2016, Kenny Omega turned his back on then-Bullet Club frontrunner AJ Styles, kicked him out of the faction, took over the leadership reins and formed The Elite.
That turned out to be Styles' final appearance for NJPW, as he made his way to WWE. As the years gradually progressed, Kenny Omega and other members of The Elite carved their legacy in Japan before moving to the US and help create AEW.
AJ Styles' signing would've been one of the biggest gets for All Elite Wrestling. At the back end of the expiration of his contract with WWE, rumors also sparked regarding Styles possibly joining AEW; however, that never happened and it's unlikely for Styles to jump ship in his 40s.
Nevertheless, AJ Styles in AEW would've been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for wrestling fans, much like Styles' run with WWE is. And under the AEW banner, "The Phenomenal One" would've definitely dealt with a lot of unfinished business.
