There are so many potential dream matchups to be had

The biggest & hottest event of the year is coming up shortly and the WWE Universe is already enthralled by the ideas of potential match ups. Rumours regarding the event have already begun spreading across the internet like wildfire and it’s possibly shaping up to be the best Summerslam in history.

What makes Summerslam special is that it is often billed as the Wrestlemania of the summer. Sometimes it even eclipses the grandest stage of them all. Two years ago we had the rematch between Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker, which was billed as ‘too big for Wrestlemania.’

That’s how big the event has become and with the talented current roster, there are so many potential dream matchups to be had.

Here are 5 dream matches for Summerslam.

#5 Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

At last year’s Battleground, Sami Zayn pinned Kevin Owens

Former best friends and now bitter rivals, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have never failed to deliver every time they’ve stepped in a WWE ring together. The two have an unrivalled chemistry that clearly goes deeper than wrestling respect, it’s built on friendship.

The two Canadians make it their duty to raise the bar every time they wrestle and it’s time the two were given a major platform to showcase that on.

The two have wrestled on PPVs before, but it's different when it’s in front of a sold out Summerslam crowd. The second biggest event of the year attracts media coverage like no other PPV, allowing wrestlers to get the chance to shine.

With Zayn and Owens now on the same brand, it’s only a matter of time before the duo’s paths cross in an epic way.

#4 John Cena vs. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin has faced John Cena once

As far as SmackDown live goes, this is about as heavyweight as it gets. The Lone Wolf has been making waves in the WWE ever since he shocked a 100,000 strong crowd at WrestleMania 32.

Since then, JBL has reminded us every week that he’s a future world champion, but Corbin has seemingly not been able to reach those heights yet. However, a match with the 16-time world champion at Summerslam would exceed those heights significantly.

It’s not the title that makes the man, it’s the man that makes the title. And for Baron Corbin to become a world champion type level performer, he needs a huge W under his belt. It literally doesn’t get bigger than beating John Cena.

It should be noted that Baron Corbin is an early favourite to win the Money In The Bank contract. If he were to hold the briefcase facing Cena, that would make things even more interesting.

We all know Cena has an inexplicable losing streak at Summerslam, so why not align the stars and let the Lone Wolf finally announce himself on the main stage.

#3 Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe

With Samoan blood running through their veins, this feud would be of epic proportions.

On Samoa Joe’s first match on Monday Night Raw, he was able to pin the big dawg. Such an outstanding landmark win warrants a rematch to settle the score. Rarely does Roman Reigns get pinned and not get his eventual win back, he is coming for Samoa Joe and it should happen in the summer.

As two main eventers, Summerslam is the perfect stage for the two Samoans to clash and establish who the top Samoan is on Monday nights. The match would be physical, hard-hitting and athletic due to the ability of both competitors.

#2 AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

These two would produce one of the best matches ever produced on the Summerslam stage

This is the match the WWE Universe wants even though they don’t know it yet.

When the term ‘pure wrestling’ comes to mind, these two names pop up immediately. As two men who redefined standards of excellence in Japan, Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles are destined to clash in the big leagues of the WWE.

If permitted to do so, I’m 100% sure these two would produce one of the best matches ever produced on the Summerslam stage.

If AJ Styles can have a flawless 5-star match with John Cena, just imagine what he could do with his original dance partner in Shinsuke Nakamura. They’re both already over, but this match would cement their places in history.

This is one of those rare scenarios where either result would be accepted by the fans as they’re so desperate to witness the greatness.

#1 Finn Balor vs. Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar weighs 75lbs more than Finn Balor

As the Demon stated a few weeks back on RAW, he has his eyes firmly set on the WWE Universal Championship. With Brock Lesnar currently billed as the most dominant heavyweight champion in history, the prospect of the two facing off could be captivating for the whole WWE Universe.

As a man that pinned Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns within the space of two weeks, Finn Balor’s name holds true weight with the WWE Universe. Despite his size, fans now truly believe the Irishman can beat anyone on the roster and a David vs. Goliath dynamic could truly sell Summerslam to the masses.
