Cody Rhodes once competed in WWE and was fairly successful. However, issues with his character led to his departure. He now wrestles on the independent circuit for Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Cody currently leads the Bullet Club whereas Daniel Bryan works for WWE after returning from injury.

In previous years, both wrestlers have competed in WWE. Moreover, their collective tenures outside the WWE have been lucrative. After Cody created his own PPV, Bryan was speculated to perform for him. Bryan voided this claim when he resigned with WWE.
