5 first time opponents Brock Lesnar should face before his WWE retirement

The Beast Incarnate
The Beast Incarnate

Brock Lesnar is the reigning and defending Universal Champion right now, but he's held that title hostage for way too long, and after what many predict will be a loss at WrestleMania 35, his WWE future will be up in the air.

If he does indeed stick around (which is currently rumored, but things change with the WWE and especially Brock Lesnar all the time), it's going to be interesting to see how the company handles The Beast Incarnate.

When he's motivated, Brock is still capable of putting on some incredible bouts, so he can still be very valuable to the company. Sure, after losing to Rollins, the shine may come off The Beast, but he's still a big-time star, and before he does walk away from the WWE for good, there are performers we'd love to see him face, and the following are the top names.

#5 Cesaro

Swiss Superman
Swiss Superman

Cesaro was once regarded as one of the top wrestlers in the world, and despite the fact he's been doing amazing work alongside Sheamus over the past few years, he's definitely dropped in a lot of fans' eyes.

That's unfortunate, because the Swiss Superman is still as incredible as he ever was inside the ring, and it's time the WWE lets him lose and be the wrestling machine he is as a singles star.

This has been a dream match for fans over the years, and if the WWE book Cesaro well over the next year, Brock could be the final hurdle for him to climb to become the World Champion he should have been long ago.

This one is not very likely over the next 12 months, because the WWE is insistent on Cesaro wrestling in tag teams, but if they do want a fresh star at the top, The Swiss Superman is a phenomenal option.

#4 Bobby Lashley

The Almighty
The Almighty

When rumors of Bobby Lashley's return hit the internet, many people talked about dream matches in the company he left over 10 years ago, and the one that was on everyone's mind was against fellow MMA fighter, Brock Lesnar. That match was supposed to be the first big bout in the second run of The Almighty, but unfortunately, that hasn't quite happened yet.

It's clear the WWE sees him as a main event player, but their booking of him thus far has been quite odd, and that can all change with a match against The Beast Incarnate in 2019.

He's likely going to lose the Universal Championship to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35, and after that, if Brock does stick around, he'll be having a few big exhibition bouts, and pitting two former MMA stars and legitimate performers against each other makes the most sense at this point.

#3 Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali was once just an overlooked member of 205 Live, but in the past year, he's built himself into one of the most versatile performers in the WWE, and he's about to be rewarded for it.

He's already been promoted to SmackDown Live, and he's easily the most likable performer in the WWE at this point, so a meeting with the dominant Lesnar would make his career.

It's clear that the WWE see Mustafa in the same vein as Daniel Bryan from 5 years ago, and a bout with Brock Lesnar would cement his spot as the WWE's top babyface further. The Heart and Soul is still unproven as a main event talent, so following WrestleMania 35 we will no doubt see him given a chance to perform at the top level, and if he can succeed, a bout with Brock Lesnar on the way to a top championship makes complete sense.

#2 Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura

The King of Strong Style is one of the greatest Japanese performers in wrestling history, and although his run on the main roster has been somewhat of a disappointment, he's still an elite level performer.

Back after leaving the WWE for the first time in 2004, Brock actually appeared for several matches in New Japan, and one of those bouts was against Nakamura, so considering that history, this one makes a lot of sense.

Before this bout, the WWE would have to go a long way in restoring Shinsuke's credibility as a strong style performer, and if that's done correctly, he could be back on the main event scene in no time.

When the former IWGP Champion came to the WWE through NXT, Brock Lesnar was regarded as one of the dream matches fans had for him, and despite the lackluster start to his main roster career, that's still the case, as he is one of the only performers in WWE who could match Brock for strikes, and it would make for a brutal affair.

#1 Matt Riddle

The King of Bros
The King of Bros

Matt Riddle has been talking for years about how he wants to retire The Beast, and talked about it on a recent NXT interview, so before Lesnar is done, this is a match we have to see. The former UFC star looks to be on the fast-track to superstardom in the WWE, and he's got all the skills and charisma to back it up, so this would be a great way to catapult him to the top.

Matt has only just begun his journey down in NXT, so it may take some time before he reaches the main roster, but if Brock is still under contract at WrestleMania 36, this is a big-time possibility.

The King of Bros has a legit background and could physically stand up to the Beast, and if he is indeed the one able to retire him, he would be set up to become the next big star in the WWE.
