5 Former Cruiserweights that WWE could bring back

The guy with most number of CW title reigns

The WWE Universe will get to see some Cruiserweight action on Monday nights again thanks to the launch of Raw’s new Cruiserweight division. The success story of Cruiserweight Classic tournament suggests that the new division will be welcomed with warm hands by the WWE Universe.

TJ Perkins will be the face of the division as it kicks off and there are some interesting names being advertised as well. But then again, there is always room for new additions. Going to the independent scene and scouting new talent would be an obvious move. WWE also has the option to bring in some old names to shake things up. Here are some of the names that they could bring back.

1- Paul London

London could be a great addition

Paul London is one of those superstars that the WWE fans cannot forget easily. He was a notable name for WWE throughout the 2000s but due to his problem with Authority, London was outlawed from the promotion. London will be remembered mostly for his tag team championship reign with Brian Kendrick, who also happens to be in the Cruiserweight division.

So if WWE does bring back London, they could let him be a star in the Cruiserweight division and at the same time, reform the Kendrick – London team after some time for the tag team division. The biggest problem for this, as mentioned earlier, would be the burnt bridge between London and WWE.

2- Scotty 2 Hotty

A crowd pleaser

With a lot of young blood in the Cruiserweight division, Scotty 2 Hotty is not someone that we should expect to be the center of focus. But Scotty still has the ability to make the fans happy and he is still a well-known name in the WWE universe. Currently a coach at the Performance centre, the contract negotiations might go smoothly as he is already linked with the company.

There aren’t many years left in his career from the looks of it but he could play a crucial role in setting up the Division once again. The fans would still love to see him perform the worm and this allows him to put over youngster easily.

3- Evan Bourne

Needs to keep a tab on his attitude

Evan Bourne or Matt Sydal as most people knows him now was someone that had a promising career in the WWE. After spells in TNA, Ring of Honor and many other independent promotions, Sydal signed with WWE back in 2007. He then debuted in the ECW brand and stayed in the company till 2014. However, the seven-year spell of Sydal was problematic due to wellness policy violations and attitude issues.

He was released in 2014 but is still a big name in the independent scene. With the new Cruiserweight division in place, a return from Sydal would make a lot of sense as long as he manages to stay clean.

4- Chavo Guerrero

The Guerrero name is always a draw

The relationship between Chavo Guerrero and WWE might be a bit sour these days, but in the wrestling business, we never say never. Chavo is a former six-time cruiserweight champion and is still a good draw in the business. He is currently signed with AAA and showcased some interesting matches in Lucha Underground recently.

Chavo is currently 45-years-old but his recent matches suggest that he still has gas left in his tank. The microphone work of Chavo is also something that WWE could make use of as the last thing they would want is their Cruiserweight division to solely depend on wrestling rather than having any storyline backup.

5- Rey Mysterio

Rey adds star power to the division

Rey Mysterio is perhaps the least surprising entry in the list. He was one of the pioneers that introduced Cruiserweight action to the United States audience. Rey is a former three-time cruiserweight champion in the WWE and a five-time Cruiserweight champion in WCW, making him one of the most decorated Cruiserweights in the history of professional wrestling.

At 41, Rey might not be in his prime, but he still has some good years ahead of him that WWE could make use of. Also, the star power that Rey brings to the table would be an add-on for the entire division which currently has comparatively lesser known names.
