The Shield comprised of three competitors, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. After a hot main roster debut, in which the trio attacked Ryback during the main event of a pay-per-view, The Shield was known for its pre-taped backstage promos and interfering in other competitors' matches.

Soon after the debut of The Shield, all three of its members were holders of WWE championships, with Reigns and Rollins being tag team champions and Ambrose having a record-setting reign as the company's US Champion.

Ultimately The Shield disbanded as Rollins became part of The Authority and the whole "what's best for business" angle. Ambrose and Reigns briefly continued to acknowledge their Shield pasts, but it was not long before Ambrose changed his ring attire and entrance music, leaving Reigns to be the sole former Shield member utilizing Shield-related characteristics.

A full-scale reunion of The Shield was attempted last year but fell apart due to an unexpected injury of Reigns. This led to several fill-ins for Reigns, including Kurt Angle and Triple H. Ambrose and Rollins would win the tag team championships, only for Ambrose to also suffer an unexpected injury.

Presently, all three members of The Shield are babyface characters. Ambrose is expected to be back in action in the very near-future. While a full-scale Shield reunion is not likely, the possibility of two Shield members having any reign as tag team champions is not out of the question.
