Daniel Bryan and Ambrose have brawled more than once since 2013. During the Yes! Movement, The Shield was doing The Authority's bidding, which brought the two in the ring at the same time. They also fought each other in the weeks leading to WrestleMania 31, when both of them were favorites to win the Intercontinental Championship. Stardust, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth, Luke Harper, and Bad News Barrett were the other five contenders in this match.

Bryan sustained an injury during the match, which kept him away from the ring for a long time. He came back in 2018, but he and Ambrose never got a chance to fight each other thanks to the Brand Split.

Both of them turned heel around the same time last year, and Bryan's ability to connect with WWE fans would have made for an interesting feud. WWE could have played The Lunatic Fringe as someone who beat the hell out of Bryan and then The American Dragon would seek revenge. It would have been exciting to watch Bryan's elbow strikes and leg kicks against Ambrose's tenacity.

This perhaps could not happen due to the extended injury of Bryan when Ambrose was enjoying his singles run in WWE. But, like the saying goes - "Never say never."
