Goldberg made his return to WWE in 2016 and was pushed into a feud with Brock Lesnar which was centered around the launch of WWE 2K17.
Ahead of his bout with The Beast Incarnate at WWE's Survivor Series pay-per-view, the company set up a segment on RAW where he could showcase his dominance over Rusev.
The Bulgarian superstar interrupted Goldberg's promo and what ensued was supposed to show that Goldberg could brush aside an opponent like Rusev with ease, but this wasn't the case. Ahead of his high-profile match against Brock Lesnar, Goldberg struggled in a brawl with Rusev.

Goldberg went on to deliver a few knees to Rusev before falling to the ground. This led to a scramble before the WWE Hall of Famer was able to get back up and continue the planned spots.
In the end it was Goldberg who came out on top since he was able to deliver a Jackhammer to send a message to Brock Lesnar.
