5 heel and face turns that could happen before WrestleMania 34

It’s often thought that the road to WrestleMania underwhelms more than it excites, with minimal twists and turns taking place in the weeks leading up to WWE’s annual extravaganza.

However, the build to WrestleMania 34 has been promising so far, especially on Raw, and there are plenty of potential surprises in store between now and April.

The biggest surprise of all in WWE, more often than not, is when a good guy turns heel or when a bad guy suddenly becomes a babyface, and right now there are several Superstars who could definitely do with undergoing a drastic character change.

In this article, we take a look at five people who could potentially turn heel or face before this year’s “Show of Shows” descends on New Orleans.

#5 Nia Jax

Nia Jax was reduced to tears by Alexa Bliss on Raw this week

Nia Jax has shown a more human side to her destructive character in recent months, most notably in her brief storyline with Enzo Amore, and even this past week on Raw when she broke down in tears after hearing some harsh home truths from best friend Alexa Bliss.

If reports are true and WWE is planning to have Nia challenge Alexa for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 34, only one of them is going to be the babyface – and it’s not going to be “Little Miss Bliss”.

Nia is still technically a heel (let's not forget she viciously barged poor Asuka through a barricade just last week!), but she’ll almost certainly turn into a face in the build-up to ‘Mania if she’s going to take on the increasingly evil Bliss.

#4 Tye Dillinger

Tye Dillinger has been a babyface on WWE television since joining SmackDown Live

Tye Dillinger’s stop-start beginning to his time on WWE’s main roster looked to be heading in the right direction when he was added to the AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin United States title match at Hell In A Cell in October 2017.

However, since then he has featured in just two televised matches, losing to Jinder Mahal in December 2017 and to Corbin again in January 2018, and he has recently been teasing a heel turn during various untelevised live events.

With the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal expected to take place again at WrestleMania 34, perhaps that will represent a chance for Tye to return to our screens with a new persona in the weeks leading up to this year’s “Show of Shows”.

#3 Bobby Roode

Bobby Roode is currently feuding with Randy Orton

It looked for a long time as if Randy Orton would be the next major Superstar to turn heel on SmackDown Live, with the man himself even saying on Edge & Christian’s Pod of Awesomeness podcast that he is “sick of this babyface thing”.

But, thinking about it, would it not make more sense for Bobby Roode – Orton’s babyface rival – to turn heel on the road to WrestleMania? After all, “The Glorious One” is a much better bad guy than a good guy and his current character feels somewhat underwhelming compared to his NXT persona.

Orton will undoubtedly become a bad guy again at some point in the next year, but if WWE decides to turn either of these guys heel before they get to New Orleans, we think it’s more likely to be Roode.

#2 Rusev

Ruse
Why oh why is Rusev still a heel?!

If you remember the reaction that Rusev and Aiden English received at Clash of Champions in December 2017, you’d probably have thought at the time that WWE would promote the duo as their top babyface tag team on SmackDown Live.

However, despite show-stealing crowd reactions since then, it has become clear in the last couple of weeks that “The Bulgarian Brute” and his singing sidekick will remain heels for the foreseeable future.

The WWE Universe will surely not accept that for much longer, as highlighted in recent episodes of SmackDown when “Rusev Day” was chanted during random segments, and we reckon the former United States champion will finally be a babyface by the time WrestleMania 34 comes around.

#1 Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks was an incredible heel in NXT

After close to two years together on WWE’s main roster, best friends Sasha Banks and Bayley have recently started to renew their history-making rivalry from NXT.

Sasha eliminated her friend from the Royal Rumble and then turned against her at Elimination Chamber, while Bayley refused a hug from “The Boss” on this week’s episode of Raw.

You have to imagine that one of the two Superstars will turn heel if their rivalry continues into WrestleMania, with many hoping that ultimate babyface Bayley will be the one to turn to the dark side.

However, as interesting as that would be, we just can’t see “The Huggable One” betraying her young fanbase, so it seems much more likely that Sasha will return to her dastardly NXT ways in the near future.
