5 huge WWE rumours that were proved false

The latest one is that Hulk Hogan is going to buy TNA with the money he won in the Gawker trial

The WWE is a multibillion-dollar company and a sports entertainment giant. With so many colourful personalities around, it is not impossible to fathom that people would start baseless rumours of some kind about the employees of the company.

There have been numerous rumours about the WWE that have proved to be baseless – including alleged deaths of Vince McMahon and John Cena.

This list takes a look at the top five false rumours about WWE superstars

1.There were two Ultimate Warriors

The only Ultimate Warrior

This is a rumour that started nearly three decades ago and there are still people who believe that two people portrayed the Ultimate Warrior character.

Jim Hellwig debuted his Warrior character in WCCW as the Dingo Warrior with short hair, but when he came to the WWE in ’91, he had shiny bleach bond hair.

Also, when he returned to the WWE in ’92, he was considerably slimmer, leading to speculation that someone else was playing the character. There was even a rumour that Kerry Von Erich had played the character, but in reality, there had only been one Warrior – Jim Hellwig

2.Vince McMahon sent Vince Russo to WCW to destroy it

The genius behind the Attitude Era

WWE and WCW were engaged in the scintillating Monday night wars for the better part of the 90s. The nWo angle had put Ted Turner’s company firmly in the driver’s seat and out of desperation, WWE responded by ushering in the Attitude Era which featured edgier storylines.

Vince Russo was the head writer of Raw at the time and naturally people assumed that he was the brains behind WWE’s rise.

But he always had Vince McMahon to screen his ideas and the ambitious Russo got miffed at being kept in the background by McMahon and jumped to WCW in the late nineties.

Russo’s arrival was supposed to reinvigorate the slumping WCW, but Russo introduced cartoonish storylines and weird matches which did nothing to raise the stature of WCW and the company folded within a couple of years.

One rumour that started spreading was that Russo was planted inside WCW by Vince McMahon to introduce really bad storylines in to the company so that it could never catch up with the WWE. That is essentially false, the truth was that Russo was a loose cannon and his ideas were all over the place. With no one to tell him what was good and what was wrong, Russo assumed that all his concepts like the piñata on a pole match were crowd pullers!!

His solo act was so pathetic that the WWE never rehired him even 15 years after his departure from the company.

3 The Dudley Boyz are actual half brothers

They’re not from Dudleyville, either

WWE has made it a point to slowly screenout the kayfabe backgrounds of wrestlers as they progress in their career.

They introduced Edge& Christian as brothers when they debuted in the company in the late nineties. But by the time Edge retired in 2011, their relationship was relegated to being just best friends. It was convenient that the Hardys were actual brothers, though.

But the Dudley Boyz have always been known as half-brothers – Probably the main reason is that Bubba and D-Von have never had a sustained singles run in the WWE requiring the company to emphasise on their individualisms.

Any ways, for the uninitiated, Bubba and D-Von are not half brothers.

While D-Von’s real name is Devon Hughes, Bubba’s is Mark LoMonaco. The only similarity in their birth is that both were born in NewYork City.

  1. Rey Mysterio dated Jennifer Aniston

Even he thinks it’s funny

A bizarre rumour that made the rounds in the mid-90s was that Luchador Rey Mysterio was dating ‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston. Nobody knows how it originated, but it was published in a magazine, despite Mysterio being married at the time.

Aniston didn’t even bother to react to the rumour where as Mysterio and his wife bought the first copy of the magazine and had a good laugh about it.

Seriously, Rey and Aniston??? She’s too tall for him!!

5) Randy Savage slept with Stephanie McMahon

Seriously? With all that?

This rumour has never been proven to be false – but it is too outrageous to be true. There was a tale going around in the mid 90s that Randy Savage had slept with the teenage Stephanie McMahon.

Vince was supposed to be furious with Savage and it seems that was the reason for Savage not being recalled to the WWE after his WCW stint. This could also explain why he was inducted in to the Hall of Fame a decade later than he should have been.

However, Randy’s brother has denied the rumour and Stephanie did not bother to comment about it either.
