The future of Kevin Owens is still unknown after he was fired from SmackDown by Shane McMahon. Regardless of the outcome of that storyline, a rundown in NXT could be hugely beneficial for both KO and the brand itself.
The move to the USA Network is huge for NXT but without any bankable stars, it could be seen as a bit of a risk for the network. Owens is one of the WWE's most popular acts right now and a brief run on the brand could help put eyes on the promotion.
Owens is being wasted on the main roster right now. His feud with Shane McMahon showed promise at first but his recent firing has just extinguished any and all momentum that the former Universal Champion had built. He has lost several WWE title matches this year as well and right now, it seems like there is very little option for him to go elsewhere.
