"It’s me, Austin! It was me all along, Austin!", these were the infamous words of one Vince McMahon when he revealed himself as the "Higher Power." The fact that the storyline ended with McMahon as the chief antagonist disappointed legions of fans who had speculated about the identity of the Higher Power for many weeks.

Despite seemingly turning babyface and joining forces with former arch rival Steve Austin, it was revealed that McMahon had actually colluded with The Undertaker to abduct his own daughter, Stephanie, simply to get the better of the Texas Rattlesnake.

It really was the most disappointing conclusion imaginable and a rare letdown from the ever popular Attitude Era. It was was simply a case of WWE overplaying a pat hand.
