Billy and Chuck, from beginning to end, were quite a controversial duo in WWE.
Billy and Chuck, from beginning to end, were quite a controversial duo in WWE.

Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo were teamed up in WWE back in 2001 after Palumbo was kicked out of The Alliance. Soon, they began to behave more affectionately toward each other. Soon, WWE revealed that the two men were a couple.

They were joined by Rico, and the duo was pushed as the first on-screen gay couple in WWE. The pair even got support from GLAAD when WWE revealed that the multi-time WWE Tag Team Champions would have a wedding ceremony on SmackDown.

But it was all a sham. During the wedding, Gunn and Palumbo revealed that their relationship was a publicity stunt that went too far. As a result, GLAAD rescinded their support of the company and lambasted WWE for lying about the whole situation.

Rico, furious about the deception, defected to RAW. He began managing 3-Minute Warning, the team that happened to interrupt the controversial wedding. Gunn and Palumbo quietly split up. Palumbo joined the Full Blooded Italians, and Gunn reverted to his "Mr. Ass" gimmick.
