Why was watching Mike Kanellis getting embarrassed so much fun to watch?

It was a once-in-a-lifetime period where everything seemed to center on extremely personal feuds, reality bending storytelling, and a heavy dose of risque behavior. While WWE ultimately abandoned that aesthetic in favor of a more family friendly program, they still occasionally show hints of the bygone era when the time calls for it.

One perfect example of this was the ongoing storyline between Maria Kanellis and her husband Mike, which originally centered around the father of Maria's unborn baby was, and that it was definitely not Mike's. The story lost steam pretty quickly, so it devolved from being about Mike being embarrassed in a soap-opera-yet-serious manner to becoming a series of jokes that made him look weak compared to his wife, the dominant woman It intersected with 24/7 Title gimmick, as Mike won the title, only for his wife to force him to lay down and let her become the champion.

From when it was initially played as a serious story until it became a mostly lighthearted joke, the saga of Mike and Maria made for some of the most bizarre television the company has done in a while, and fit perfectly with the insanity that surrounds the 24/7 Title.

Plus, we got to see Maria proclaim herself to be the first pregnant champion in WWE history, while making fun of everyone because they were afraid to try to pin a pregant woman. That was far funnier than it had any right to be.
