WWE probably shouldn't have put the Universal title on Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules

The man was once dubbed WWE's next big thing in the early 2000s and while he would leave for a stint in the NFL and the UFC, he would ultimately come back to the squared circle. Interestingly enough though, the company has overused him over the last couple of years and his intended effect on the audience has diminished greatly

Beyond that, anytime the company puts the Universal or WWE title on him, fans complain that he is holding the title scene hostage. Unfortunately for fans hoping to see something new, WWE has done this several times in the past and one of Lesnar's title reigns lasted well over a year as a result.

In the end, Brock Lesnar could still be a solid draw for WWE and has proven that countless times. The problem comes when putting him in the main title picture. Not only is that proven by how restrictive WWE is with who they will put in a title picture with him, but also by the fact that it allows Lesnar to come and go as he pleases.
