As Backlash 2020 approached near, Strowman got into a feud with John Morrison and The Miz on WWE SmackDown. On the June 5, 2020 episode of WWE SmackDown, the heelish duo destroyed Strowman's car, and the Universal Champion was angry beyond belief. He quickly began searching for the two, and finally found them hiding inside a van.

Strowman exited the scene, as The Miz and Morrison writhed in pain inside the fallen van. At WWE Backlash 2020, Strowman defeated The Miz and Morrison to retain his Universal title in a Handicap match.
