5 possibilities at WWE SummerSlam 2018

SummerSlam
The Biggest Party of the Summer

WWE is throwing a huge party to end the summer, and everyone is invited! This Sunday, WWE presents SummerSlam, which will take place inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The card is stacked this year, with every title on the line. On the RAW side, the main matches include Braun Strowman vs Kevin Owens with the Money in the Bank briefcase on the line, Seth Rollins once again challenging Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship, but this time he has help in his corner, in the form of the returning Dean Ambrose.

Ronda Rousey will also look to accomplish what she couldn't at Money in the Bank, winning the RAW Women's Championship away from Alexa Bliss. In the main event, Roman Reigns will look to slay the beast once and for all, dethroning Brock Lesnar as Universal Champion.

On the SmackDown side, Shinsuke Nakamura will defend his United States Championship against Jeff Hardy, with Randy Orton possibly lurking in the shadows. Carmella will defend the SmackDown Women's Championship in her toughest challenge to date as she faces Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

In a match eight years in the making, The Miz and Daniel Bryan's feud finally reaches its pinnacle in arguably the most anticipated match on the card.

In the main event for the blue brand, AJ Styles defends his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe, in what has turned out to be a very personal feud. With all of that said, here are 5 things that are possible at WWE SummerSlam 2018.

#5 Becky Lynch or Charlotte Flair will turn heel

A hell
A heel turn?

When Becky Lynch defeated Carmella a few weeks ago, she guaranteed herself a match against Carmella at SummerSlam, but this time for the SmackDown Women's Championship.

That is until Charlotte Flair returned and won a match, which put her in the match as well, making it a Triple-Threat at SummerSlam. Lynch was not thrilled, but she put on a brave face, and the two friends have been getting along just fine.

However, I feel one of them is going to turn heel, and it can happen on Sunday. The question is - who will turn?

Charlotte has done pretty much everything she can as a face at this point, and she works much better as a heel. However, in the storyline, she didn't do anything wrong to Lynch and she was in the right place at the right time.

On the other hand, Lynch has been referred to as "Charlotte's sidekick" for months, and she got screwed out of her one on one match at SummerSlam by her best friend. Also, when Charlotte won the match to be added to the SummerSlam title match, Lynch looked pissed.

All the frustration could be building to a heel turn for Becky, whether it be a slow burn or a fast one at SummerSlam.

I can see Becky hitting a finisher on Carmella, but Charlotte takes advantage and pins Carmella and wins the title. After that, Becky will either shake Charlotte's hand and walk away more frustrated or shake her hand and then turn heel, beating down Charlotte. Either way, I can see a Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair feud throughout the fall months for the title.

#4 Dean Ambrose will turn on Seth Rollins

Dean A
Heel turn - Dean Ambrose (r)

Speaking of heel turns, this is one I am certain about, whether it happens at SummerSlam or after. Dean Ambrose returned this past Monday on RAW after being out of action since late last year with a triceps injury. His new look and demeanor just screams heel to me.

This heel turn also makes sense in the storyline as well, since it could be argued that Rollins' suicide dive during a match is what led to Ambrose being hurt. What better way to get revenge then costing the man that cost you months of your career his title? Or beating the crap out of him after winning the title, and stealing his moment?

RAW is overloaded with babyfaces at the moment, and out of all of them, the one that needs a heel turn mostly (aside from Roman Reigns) is Ambrose. I'm not too sure if it will happen this Sunday, but down the line Ambrose is going to turn on Rollins, and we will get the feud we had that was great a few years ago, just the roles will be reversed this time around.

#3 Kevin Owens will win the Money in the bank contract

For the first time since 2012, the Money in the bank contract will be on the line as Kevin Owens will take on Braun Strowman. If Strowman loses the match in any way, Owens wins the contract, and that will be exactly what will happen.

As I mentioned in previous articles, Strowman winning the contract made no sense in the first place, as it doesn't fit his character, and he doesn't need the contract to get into the title picture.

It fits Owens' character perfectly, and if he wins the contract it could make the main event match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar more interesting. If Paul Heyman turns on Lesnar, Owens would be a perfect Heyman guy, although he would do just fine without Heyman as well.

The stipulation of this match also helps as well, since Owens does not have to pin Strowman to win the match, and Strowman will look strong, even in defeat. I see Owens antagonizing Strowman to the point where he snaps and gets himself disqualified, just like what Christian did to Randy Orton during their feud.

#2 AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe will end in a no contest

WWE
WWE Championship match

In the main event match for the blue brand, AJ Styles will defend his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe. These two are no stranger to each other as their history dates all the way back to their days in Impact Wrestling.

However, this will be their first televised WWE match, and what a place for it to take place at. If you are expecting a clean finish to this match though, you will be disappointed.

This feud has become personal over the past few weeks, as Joe has been attacking AJ's family verbally and calling him a bad father. Last night on SmackDown, Joe read a letter which he claimed to be from Styles' wife.

All of this leads me to believe that there will be a non-finish at SummerSlam in order to extend their feud to Hell in a Cell.

I think we will see a double count out, or Styles getting himself disqualified. This will keep the belt on Styles, and also keeps this feuding going strong into Hell in a Cell. Joe's mind games have been working as Styles is losing his cool, and I think it will reach a boiling point come Sunday.

#1 Roman Reigns will finally slay Brock Lesnar

Ma
Main event

In the main event of the evening, Roman Reigns will once again look to defeat Brock Lesnar and win the Universal Championship. This is a match very few want to see again, especially in the main event of a big 4 PPV, but here we are.

Everyone thought Reigns would defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania, but that didn't happen. Then when their rematch was announced for the Greatest Royal Rumble, everyone thought Reigns would surely win there, but again it didn't happen.

Now with Lesnar rumoured to have a match in UFC against Daniel Cormier, the thought is that this will be the time Reigns will finally conquer Lesnar, and I believe the time is now.

If WWE doesn't pull the trigger here on Reigns winning the belt, they may have finally given up on him being the top babyface of the company. There is no reason for Lesnar to walk out of the Barclays Center with the Universal Championship.

I believe this will mirror their WrestleMania match, where Reigns took numerous F5's and even bled. This time though, I think Reigns will win with numerous spears. The question will be - will there be outside shenanigans from Paul Heyman? And will Kevin Owens or Braun Strowman cash in the Money in the Bank contract.
