5 possible bouts for the WWE NXT TakeOver: New York match-card

NXT TakeOver: New York

NXT has been on fire lately, as their Takeover events have continued to get better and better, and with WrestleMania weekend just around the corner, their latest set of tapings at Full Sail Arena has begun setting up that Takeover card.

Some of these are obvious and some are going to come as a big surprise, and while none have been officially announced, after the antics that occurred at the latest tapings, it's easy to guess what the match-card will be for the show.

Please keep in mind that at this stage, none of these are official, but with the way things are going down in NXT, these are looking like the 5 bouts for the upcoming NXT TakeOver: New York.

#1 Dominik Dijakovic vs Keith Lee

Both men have faced off several times in the past for different promotions

This is a match that not many people would expect, but given that these two are going to be a big part of NXT's future, giving them their first TakeOver bout against each other makes a lot of sense.

On the past NXT taping, the two men had a physical war that ended in a double count-out, and it seemed much like the beginning of a feud, rather than a one-off match, so a bout on a big stage like TakeOver could blow the rest of the show out of the water.

Both men have faced off several times in the past for different promotions, and the athleticism that both possess regardless of their size makes this a unique and mouthwatering matchup.

It's not the biggest matchup in terms of name recognition, as both are quite new to NXT, but if the WWE gives them 10-15 minutes and lets the physicality flow, it could be one of the best matches of the entire weekend, and would put the winner of this bout on a fast track to the NXT Championship.

#2 Matt Riddle vs. Adam Cole vs. The Velveteen Dream (C) - NXT North American Championship

Velveteen Dream has just won the NXT North American Championship from Johnny Gargano, but on the next taping, he was immediately greeted with two elite level challengers. Both Matt Riddle and Adam Cole have staked their claim to the new champion, so a Triple Threat seems like a great option right now.

If NXT runs a #1 contenders match between Riddle and Cole before we get to TakeOver, that would make sense too, considering the women's bout is likely a Fatal 4-Way, but the thought of a Triple Threat is exciting.

You don't want either Riddle or Dream to lose right now, so a Triple Threat allows neither to eat a pin in what will be a huge bout, and it plays into the story of The Undisputed Era struggling to get wins right now, so it's the best option.

#3 Io Shirai vs. Bianca Belair vs. Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler (C) - NXT Women's Championship

With plenty of young talent ready to step up, it's likely that one of these 3 women will come out on top

Shayna Baszler has been running roughshod over the entire NXT Women's division for a while now, and with Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke by her side, a multi-woman match is the only way she will ever drop that championship.

Like the North American Championship match, this could be dwindled down to one challenger before the event, but to make the challenge to The Queen of Spades believable, this is the best way to go.

All 3 of these women are ready to take the title from Baszler, and with all 3 of them challenging at once, it's going to be tough for Baszler to retain, as she is likely bound for the main roster soon. With plenty of young talent ready to step up, it's likely that one of these 3 women will come out on top in New York, and it's exciting to see who they would possibly go with.

#4 Ricochet/Aleister Black vs. War Raiders (C) - NXT Tag Team Championships

William Regal announced at the latest taping that the Dusty Rhodes Classic will be returning, and the finals are going to be contested at the next taping between the duo of Ricochet and Aleister Black against the Forgotten Sons.

Given that these two men are on their way up to the main roster, one final TakeOver bout seems appropriate, and getting to the finals is a great glimpse into the future for The Forgotten Sons duo of Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake.

The War Raiders have just begun their first reign as NXT Tag Team Champions, so this is a great way to get another fantastic TakeOver bout under their belt while giving a send-off to the two stars on the other side of the ring.

It may not be as good as their last TakeOver bout due to the immense build to War Raiders vs. Undisputed, but Hanson and Ray Rowe are arguably the best tag team in the company, and this will be a classic.

#5 Tommaso Ciampa (C) vs. Johnny Gargano - NXT Championship

It's bound to be yet another classic
It's bound to be yet another classic

A lot has happened in the last few weeks, and with Johnny losing his North American Championship, this became closer and closer to reality. At the latest set of tapings following DIY's loss to Black/Ricochet in the Dusty Classic, Ciampa attempted to turn on Johnny again, but Johnny Wrestling turned the tables, setting up what should be their final NXT bout.

Their TakeOver careers began 3 years ago at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, and while this isn't the SummerSlam weekend event, it's a pretty great way to come full circle, and it's bound to be yet another classic.

With both men likely moving to the main roster full time in the near future, it's hard to predict the way this one will go, but you have to expect WWE will give Johnny his shining moment in NXT before it's all said and done.
