5 possible reasons why Brock Lesnar beat Roman Reigns

Brock Lesnar shocked the world at WrestleMania 34 last night when he defeated Roman Reigns to retain his Universal Championship. Lesnar was considered to be the underdog heading into this match with many fans predicting that this would be a passing of the torch moment for Reigns as Lesnar looked likely to be heading back to UFC.

This obviously wasn't the case and once again, Brock Lesnar shocked the world inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans as he recorded one of the biggest shocks of the night, but why was Lesnar able to walk out with WWE's biggest prize after all of the build-up in recent weeks had pointed towards a win for Reigns?

#5. Brock Lesnar refused to lose

Did Brock Lesnar perform a shoot finish on Roman Reigns?
Did Brock Lesnar perform a shoot finish on Roman Reigns?

One of the biggest rumors surrounding Brock Lesnar the last time he shocked the world in New Orleans back at WrestleMania 30, was that he wasn't the man who was supposed to win, he just decided that he wanted to. Even Paul Heyman had pitched this idea to the WWE Universe and since The Undertaker is yet to speak openly about the match, there is no one to argue that this isn't what Lesnar did four years ago.

If Lesnar's contract has come to an end now and he is set to head over to UFC, then there isn't anything that could have stopped him from destroying Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 and walking out with his Championship anyway.

#4. Is there more to this story?

Are WWE keeping something under wraps?
Is WWE keeping something under wraps?

All of the build-up has favoured Roman Reigns over the past few weeks and with Brock Lesnar seemingly looking to head over to UFC, WWE would want to pull the trigger as fast as they can when it comes to taking the title from him, since he could take the Universal Championship over to UFC and turn WWE into a joke.

Rey Mysterio was the shock winner of the World Heavyweight Championship back at WrestleMania 22, a win that should have gone to Randy Orton if he hadn't failed the Wellness Policy Test a few days before. Reigns has been the one who has taken all of the abuse in the buildup to the show, could this be punishment for something that hasn't yet been made public knowledge?

#3. The ending of the match was rushed

Could Lesnar have called an audible
Could Lesnar have called an audible?

Roman Reigns was busted open mid-way through the match last night at WrestleMania in such a way that it seems that the match was rushed after the incident because Reigns was bleeding heavily and both he and Lesnar were covered in it.

Reigns couldn't see because of his injury and the canvas in the ring was also stained with Reigns' bodily fluids, so it's entirely feasible that the referee was told to inform Lesnar and Reigns to call an audible and finish the match as quickly as possible. Lesnar was already on top at this point so the win made sense and the rushed finish meant that Reigns was unable to build any form of comeback.

#2. Lesnar held WWE to ransom

There has been no word on whether or not Lesnar is set to renew his WWE contract that is reported to run out this month, but it seems that reports today suggest that one of the terms of The Beast signing a new contract with WWE was that he was able to retain his Championship in New Orleans.

It is unknown as to whether or not Lesnar will remain in WWE in the coming months with a UFC return looming and Dana White himself being spotted at ringside last night, but it seems that this is the rumor that is circulating on Social Media this morning.

#1. Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley

Is there a bigger plan for Lesnar following his WrestleMania win?
Is there a bigger plan for Lesnar following his WrestleMania win?

Brock Lesnar's victory did come as a shock to the WWE Universe, but not as much of a shock as Bobby Lashley being spotted in New Orleans on WrestleMania weekend. Lashley was someone who's ECW title run Vince McMahon openly called a mistake a few years ago, but it seems that the former Impact star could be set to return to the company where he found fame.

The idea is that Lashley will return to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship, something that WWE think is a great idea based on the fact that both men have a background in MMA. It is unknown where this would leave Roman Reigns moving forward since he has only recently been able to step out of the mid-card, but this is another rumor that is currently circulating.
