5 possible stadium venues for SummerSlam 2019

Where is SummerSlam heading?

For the last few years, WWE's annual summer spectacular SummerSlam has been joined at the hip with Brooklyn, New York. It's been a long and fruitful relationship in more ways than one, but now, the company is preparing to take the event elsewhere - much in the same way that they did after leaving Los Angeles for NY in the first place.

While the show has almost been exclusively held in arenas, it's starting to feel like the tides are turning in terms of WWE's tendency to run stadium shows. With the Greatest Royal Rumble taking place as well as the 2019 Rumble being held at Chase Field, the times are certainly changing - and that pattern needs to continue with the biggest party of the summer.

With that being said, here are five possible stadium venues for SummerSlam 2019.

#5 LA Memorial Coliseum

We mentioned LA in the introduction, and for good reason. Los Angeles, and more specifically the Staples Center, hosted SummerSlam six years in a row between 2009 and 2014 until WWE moved it to Brooklyn. The arena always worked well enough, but the city itself is often seen as a big reason why the company decided to continually go back there.

LA is a vibrant place with great weather, especially in August, and with the Memorial Coliseum, you've got a stadium that is more than fit for the occasion. Obviously there are some logistics that need to be worked out, and if we were talking about 2020 then we'd substitute in the new Inglewood stadium, but for now, it feels like the Coliseum would be worth the risk.

#4 FedEx Field

While the Washington Redskins haven't exactly given people many reasons to shout and cheer, FedEx Field itself is arguably one of the nicest stadiums in the National Football League. The size and location of it make for a great spectacle, and with it being just down the road from Washington, you just know that WWE could do some great things from a marketing perspective.

In terms of potential stars who could appear, it feels like an appearance from hometown favourite Batista would be the best move WWE could possibly make. While there's no guarantee that he'd receive a big pop, many fans from around America and likely the world would still travel hundreds and thousands of miles just to see the show itself.

#3 Safeco Field

For recent WWE fans, you may not be entirely familiar with Safeco Field. For those of you who were watching in the post-Attitude Era years, this stadium may be a little bit more recognisable. SF was the venue which hosted WrestleMania 19 back in 2003, which is still considered by many to be one of the best Manias of all time.

Alongside the history of the stadium itself, Safeco Field is also located in Seattle which has always been considered to be a popular city in the United States. Oh, and did we mention that it's less than two hours away from the hometown of Daniel Bryan?

Just imagine Bryan vs Styles for the WWE Championship in this venue. Lovely stuff.

#2 Wembley Stadium

We know that we keep badgering on about it, but there's a good reason for that. Wembley Stadium is the frontrunner for any and all WWE stadium shows that take place outside of North America, mainly because of the overwhelming popularity of the UK wrestling scene in addition to the fact that it already hosted SummerSlam way back in 1992.

However, that was the old Wembley. The new Wembley is arguably even more impressive, which opens the door for plenty of international visitors in addition to the many, many Brits who would pay good money to see the show live.

While there aren't too many high-level British names in WWE right now after the departures of Wade Barrett and Neville, you've always got the likes of Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne who could lead the charge.

#1 Citrus Bowl

There's a reason why Orlando is already planning another WrestleMania bid - because it's a great city to host the showcase of the immortals. The weather is always great, it's the home of NXT and the Performance Center, and there's always plenty of things to do when the wrestling isn't on.

Because of that, we think that WWE should turn to the Citrus Bowl aka Camping World Stadium for SummerSlam 2019. They're probably going to have to wait at least a few years before they can host Mania again anyway, so they may as well throw all of their eggs into the SummerSlam basket in the meantime.

Plus, and this is a personal choice, we'd like to see the return of 'Greenlight' by Pitbull as the official theme song.
