Roman Reigns. Where do we even start with the Big Dog of the WWE? He seems to be the most hated professional wrestler on the planet for smarks, while he is second only to John Cena when it comes to popularity amongst casual WWE audiences. What is it about him that divides opinion among fans?

Whether you love him or hate him, there is no getting past the fact that Reigns is one of the biggest superstars on the planet today. At the relatively young age of 32, he has done it all. He has won multiple World Championships, he has won the Royal Rumble, he has main evented Wrestlemania on three consecutive occasions -- with the last one being the apparent retirement match of the legendary Undertaker.

So, why exactly is the Roman Empire held in such high regard by certain sections of the WWE Universe? Well, that's what we're here to discuss today. So, without any further ado, here is our list of 5 reasons why Roman Reigns is one of the most loved WWE Superstars today:

#5 His look

Reigns is the prototypical professional wrestler

Hey, it's 2017! It doesn't really matter what a WWE Superstar looks like, right? After all, the likes of Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe have ascended to main event players with their less than stellar physique, while AJ Styles is the biggest name on the roster despite his relatively small stature. Well, that's not quite the case.

The simple fact of the matter is that for a significant portion of the WWE Universe, a wrestler's look matters just as much if not more than his wrestling ability. They're the collective version of Vince McMahon's obsession with big muscled men. And, when it comes to having a typical wrestler's look, there are few better than Roman Reigns.

With his massive frame, long hair, bulging muscles and ring attire, Roman very much looks like a top guy and that goes a long way in establishing your popularity when it comes to more casual fans of the WWE product.

#4 His strong booking

Reigns wins way more than he loses
Reigns wins way more than he loses

A lot of people -- again, mainly the hardcore professional wrestling fans -- bemoan the fact that Roman Reigns comes out on top no matter what the odds are against him. It seems like time after time he picks up the victory when there clearly isn't any logical way for him to do so.

He gets beaten to a pulp, takes three of his opponent's finishers and still kicks out, hits the Superman Punch and the Spear to win. It's a scenario that has played out all too often in WWE programming. And yet, this is exactly the kind of booking that makes him so popular amongst younger audiences.

Just like how John Cena could come back from anything in his Super Cena phase, "The Big Dog" invokes the same sense of triumph. Being booked this strongly makes him a winner more often than not. And, who doesn't love a winner?

#3 He's a hard worker

Reigns works just as hard as anyone else on the roster

A fact that is often lost on people when they seem Roman Reigns and his ridiculously strong booking is just how hard he has worked -- and continues to work -- in order to remain "The Big Dog" in the WWE. After all, this is a company and a business where you don't get very far unless you're willing to put in the work.

A lot of people who have shared Roman's look have been given the same kind of strong booking have not been able to take advantage of those opportunities because they lacked the drive to become better. But, that's simply not true in the case of Roman Reigns.

The Roman Empire was very much built on Reigns' incessant drive to better himself and earn the right to be called one of the best in the world of professional wrestling.

#2 His history with The Shield

When The Shield debuted on the WWE's main roster, they took the wrestling world by storm. They were the hottest new thing in the business, and unlike most other groups making the same impact, they were able to fulfil their potential. And, a key component of this success was Roman Reigns.

The strong, silent enforcer of the group made heads turn with his terrific power and athleticism in displays that won the hearts of the WWE Universe. And, a lot of those hearts hold a soft spot for "The Big Dog" even after the trio of Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose eventually broke up.

Amongst those who supported him in the early days, he still retains the love and affection of a portion of those fans to this day.

#1 He's a damned good wrestler

You know what? You can say that Roman Reigns is booked too strong. You can say that he can't cut a promo. But, one thing you can't say, is that he's not a great in-ring competitor.

Those who hate on Reigns' wrestling ability are just deluding themselves with their hatred of "The Big Dog".

When it's all said and done, there are few professional wrestlers who are as good as Roman is. Sure, he's no AJ Styles or Kenny Omega or Kazuchika Okada but he's still amongst the elite as evidenced by his high ranking in this year's PWI list of the Top Male Wrestlers in the World.
