5 Reasons why the House of Horrors match was a failure

Randy wasn’t impressed either by “scary sticks”.

Well, that was insane.

Ever since the “House of Horrors” match was announced, the fans were left wondering. What is in this match? Will it actually be scary? Will it have lots of stupid bugs like at WrestleMania? Will Bray simply be wearing a clown mask or something?

The possibilities were endless and potentially very stupid. Needless to say, the WWE didn’t disappoint. It really was that stupid. Randy, watch out for that “killer fridge”!

With the craziness of the match still fresh in my mind, I present my list of the 5 Reasons the House of Horrors Match was a Failure:

#5 It wasn’t scary

I guess Bray’s ability to light a house is scary?

I don’t have many expectations from a “House of Horrors” match. But the Horror part is one of my biggest expectations for a match with that name. However, the WWE is a family friendly PG company so that is what we got. It was a cheesy and a ridiculous excuse for a supposedly “scary” haunted house.

It didn’t help that Randy Orton wasn’t scared at any point in the match. He mainly just looked around the house as Bray occasionally disappeared before his next attack. Do you really think Orton was going to get scared by some creepy dolls, a pile of sticks or a dirty kitchen? If he was supposed to be afraid, Randy didn’t sell it that well.

The WWE had a good chance to actual end it with a bang. It would have been fitting to set the house on fire with Randy Orton trapped inside under that fridge. Instead, Bray Wyatt simply changed the colors of the house. I can do that with Christmas Tree Lights Bray. Has no one in the WWE ever watched a horror movie?

#4 It had many gaps in logic

This fridge didn’t hurt Randy Orton in any way

I will admit I don’t expect a lot of logic in my pro wrestling. If I did, I doubt I would be a fan in the first place. However, I do expect some semblance of logic from time to time. It was sorely lacking on this night.

First, why did Randy Orton take a limo to the haunted house? Better yet, what limo driver will allow a shirtless guy into his limo. I would love to have heard that conversation more than the match itself.

Better yet why would Randy, with nothing to gain, go to the creepy haunted house in the first place? I would personally leave once I saw some creepy dolls. But Randy felt the need to wander around and fight on.

Why did Bray feel the need to have a creepy doll room in the first place?

Where we suppose to be impressed by Bray’s ability to properly put up black lights and good camera editing. Heck, why were there camera people at all? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to make it more found footage style?

The many logic gaps truly hurt my head. If I started to think about the fact it was night outside when it was daylight in San Jose, it all becomes way too much to handle.

#3 Too large of a gap between the two parts of the match

I think Bray really wanted a nice limo ride.

I could only imagine what it was like to be watching that first part of the “match” on the screen in the arena. That in itself was a very poor choice, as it made the fans turn against the match.

Then we had a nearly twenty-minute wait for the conclusion. Maybe Bray should have put the “House of Horrors” closer to the arena.

So it seemed weird to watch a strange match on a screen and return to a Seth Rollins versus Samoa Joe match in between. The fans enjoyed that match but it made the other things seem like an afterthought. You could tell the fans turned by the reaction in the second part of the match. Speaking of which…

#2 The second half wasn’t filled with horrors

Oh the horror!

I guess we are going to ignore the fact Randy Orton didn’t sell the fact a refrigerator was dropped on him? More importantly, how did Orton beat Bray Wyatt to the arena? Did Randy Orton get a really fast Uber? It got the second half of the match off to a poor start with its continued logic gaps.

The match portion in the arena wasn’t much to write home about. It was Randy no-selling the House portion of the match and hitting Bray a lot with a steel chair. It took a few pointless minutes but for a no-disqualification match, it didn’t live up to the horror moniker. A few chair shots do not seem all that scary.

#1 Bray needed a lot of help to win nothing

Bray needed Jinder’s help to win nothing at all

So despite the fact he created the match and controlled the “House of Horrors”, Bray Wyatt was about to lose to Randy Orton again. Then it simply took an interference from the Singh Brothers, Jinder Mahal and a poorly placed title belt shot to finally turn the match in Wyatt’s favour.

He had finally beaten Randy Orton. So he won the title, right? Nope, for some idiotic reason, Bray never got a mandatory rematch. But it did set up Randy versus Jinder at Backlash, so be excited!

So after some crazy camera work, creepy dolls, a damaged house, a fridge attack and lots of interference it led to nothing in the end. I guess congrats to Bray Wyatt for winning the craziest match in recent WWE history. Now let us never see that again.
