5 Reasons why Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair should have Main-Evented Evolution

Many felt this was the match that stole the show

Look, I get that Ronda Rousey is a huge name whose popularity extends beyond the realm of sports entertainment. She's blazed a trail in the world of MMA and gone on to make a name for herself at the highest level in WWE. So, this is not an article hating on Ronda Rousey at all. It is just an opinion piece.

In my opinion, Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair should have closed the show at Evolution. Not Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella. And in this article, I shall elaborate why this is the case.

Of course, I'm always ready to listen to your point of view. If you think that I am wrong in my assessment, please feel free to let me know.

Here is why I think Flair vs. Lynch should have main evented Evolution.

#5 The match quality was better

Rousey vs. Bella did not compare at all

I will go on record and make a very bold statement here. I personally thought that Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch may have been the best women's main roster match ever. It was an extremely well plotted match not only with spots but with a great story too.

It was the story of a woman who was sick of being the nice girl and had tapped into her dark side to go the extra mile and defeat her former best friend. The women had incredible chemistry and put their bodies on the line for our entertainment, time and again. By the time the match was done, one could not help but offer a standing ovation.

On the other hand, I felt that while Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella had a solid match, it wasn't nearly as good as this one, for sure. Flair vs. Lynch should have really gone on last.

#4 Flair and Lynch were more responsible for 'Evolution'

Ronda Rousey is certainly a woman that deserves our respect. She was already a made woman who came over to WWE after inspiring millions of fans, both men and women, with her UFC career. She is also a movie star who's a big deal in Hollywood.

As for Nikki Bella, she's been with the company for a great many years now. She's created an empire that has brought a lot of eyeballs to WWE. She is a real trendsetter in her own right, I think.

But Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch have been redefining women's wrestling from the time that they were in NXT. This match was a culmination of all their efforts over the years, leading up to a 'Match of the Year' calibre contest.

They've been far more responsible in bringing women's wrestling to the main event.

#3 The outcome was harder to predict

Becky Lynch has certainly become a cult figure of sorts for the WWE Universe

Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella did the best with what they were given. However, it was clear to see that Rousey's dominant streak would not be broken by Nikki Bella. Anyone who's watched WWE for any length of time could predict that. Therefore, we all knew how the match was going to play out.

We did not know how how Flair vs. Lynch would have played out. Both women are fantastic competitors who've put the women's division on the map. The title could have gone to either woman and not affected the overall narrative, right now.

Therefore, the crowd was far more invested in the SmackDown Women's Title match, I felt. They were not disinterested in the RAW Women's Championship match, but they didn't care nearly as much.

Any story is more interesting when you don't know how it's going to end, right?

#2 The build up was better

Becky and Charlotte have been building to this big match, for weeks

From Melbourne to SmackDown 1000, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair have told a great story ahead of their match. In fact, some people may say that their story stretches back all the way to RAW, when they were in Team PCB. This is a story of betrayal and rising from the shadows to grab the coveted brass ring.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are not booked in the roles meant for them. Lynch gets babyface reactions whereas Charlotte Flair gets booed out of the building every week. Even then, the crowd is invested in whatever they do, making it a must watch affair on a weekly basis.

Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella had a heated promo battle ahead of their match and then some. But they don't have the same history as Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch do.

#1 Following a hardcore match with a regular one

How could Rousey and Bella even compete with such a physical contest?
How could Rousey and Bella even compete with such a physical contest?

The Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair may have been the most physical women's match this year. There were tables, there were chairs and there were tables too. Oh, yes, there were ladders as well. There was no way that a regular match would have been able to follow the madness and excitement of this spectacular contest.

And when Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella squared off, my suspicions were confirmed. The two women did not put on an embarrassing match by any means. Contrary to what her detractors have to say, Bella put on quite a clinic at WWE Evolution.

But no, the match did not have the elements that would require it to become the talking point of the show. Even a heel turn or surprise interference would have added an element of drama to the match.

But then again, I'm just glad we got both matches!
