5 reasons why Charlotte should be added to the Wrestlemania main event

If everything goes according to plan, Wrestlemania 35 may be the first time where women headline the Showcase of the Immortals. While women have already headlined various PPVs in the past such as Hell in a Cell 2016, Evolution 2018, and Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2018, they are yet to climb the top of the Mount Everest of professional wrestling.

Women's wrestling is more relevant now than it ever was, and a huge chunk of credits goes to Becky Lynch.

Lynch's rise in popularity is the single most reason why the women's storyline is heavily invested in by the WWE Universe. A huge pop and standing ovations accompany every single of her entrance. She is a massive merch mover and a crowd puller.

As mentioned before, if everything goes according to plans, Lynch will take on Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women's Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania 35. However, one huge name lurking in the shadows of this match is Charlotte Flair.

Flair has been a top contender in women's division ever since she made her debut in the main roster. "The Queen" is already a seven-time women's champion - tied for the most women's championship reigns with Trish Stratus. Thus, her constant involvement in the title picture has been stirring the pot for many WWE fans.

It is unclear if WWE would be looking forward to inserting the daughter of Ric Flair into the match between Rousey and Lynch, but all the signs suggest that WWE is considering the idea of such of a move. In the latest episode of Smackdown Live, Charlotte was emphasizing on her taking on Rousey at Wrestlemania 35.

Even though many fans would be angry at this, I feel Charlotte could bring in many positives to the RAW Women's Championship match. In this list, we will take a look at a few of those reasons.

#5 Better match quality

Both Lynch and Rousey have proven to everyone that they are good workers in the ring. Even if both of them gave their bare minimum, the build-up and the match would be memorable.

However, the past few Wrestlemania main events have been nothing but lackluster. From 2016, the main event of Wrestlemania has been underwhelming. However, WWE needs to ensure that this time the main event delivers. Thus, adding Charlotte to the mix would be a good choice.

Charlotte is a different athlete compared to Rousey and Lynch. While both Lynch and Rousey are leaning towards a technical side of wrestling, Flair is more of an athletic one. Flair can easily perform some of the memorable spots like a moonsault and Swanton bomb with ease. Moreover, in the triple threat main event between Lynch, Flair, and Asuka at TLC 2018, Flair was the MVP.

Thus adding Charlotte to the match will only make it more memorable.

#4 Charlotte has unfinished business with Rousey

When Ronda Rousey interfered in the main event of TLC 2018, both Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair were equally affected. Both of the former best friends were only inches away from the title and would be gutted to miss out on such a humongous opportunity.

Asuka made use of the interference from Rousey and clinched the title to be crowned as the new Smackdown Women's Champion.

Even at Survivor Series, the match between Charlotte and Rousey was never completed cleanly since Charlotte got herself DQed after using a kendo stick. Thus it can be seen that Charlotte still has some unfinished business with Rousey.

Even though WWE is using the pre-Survivor Series incidence between Lynch and Rousey to promote this match, Charlotte also has some say in this rivalry as she also has some involvement in this rivalry.

#3 There are no clear heels in this feud

Neither Ronda Rousey nor Becky Lynch is a clear heel going into Wrestlemania 35, even if the story is about two women who had different career paths but reached WWE nevertheless. Ronda was handpicked by WWE management due to her mainstream attention, whereas Becky had to put in 300+ days of work every year for the past few years yet did not make regular PPV appearances.

Both of the women are non-heels who have their reasons to win. Thus, adding Charlotte, who is now a heel, would give more versatility for planning this three-way feud. Although WWE has done various face vs. face dynamics for the main event of Wrestlemania before (the most relevant example being The Rock vs. John Cena storyline from 2011 to 2013), adding in a heel would only help to make the build up more interesting.

#2 It would emphasize the claim that WWE listens to its fans if Becky goes over both Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair

Without an iota of doubt, both Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair are the most protected women in WWE at the moment. However, neither of them are pushed for being a fan favorite. Ronda brings in mainstream attention whereas Charlotte Flair has a bloodline advantage, but there is no denying that they are brilliant performers.

However, Becky Lynch is a definite fan favorite. Lynch was chosen by WWE to go to the main event, not because of her bloodline or her proficiency in another sport, but due to the single fact that she is a huge fan favorite.

In 2018, WWE promised the fans that they would listen to them. Having Lynch go over both Flair and Rousey would be a great start to keep that promise.

#1 To take the fall if WWE wants to protect Rousey

WWE treats pinfalls and submissions very seriously. They are even very keen to protect wrestlers from such defeats. That is one of the primary reasons why multi-man matches and interesting stipulations like the Ladder match and the Tables match are so prevalent in the modern day. WWE may be looking forward to protecting Ronda Rousey, even though the former UFC champion could be taking a hiatus from WWE after Wrestlemania 35.

Thus, if WWE wants to have a title change without asking Rousey to concede the pinfall or submission, adding a despised heel is the best alternative to it. Even though she is one of the best performers in WWE, Charlotte Flair is one of the most booed women on the roster at the moment, due to receiving relentless title opportunities.

Becky could end the night by making Flair tap out, giving her the moment she deserves and protecting Rousey at the same time.
