Pete Dunne has been United Kingdom Champion since May 2017

At only 24 years old and coming off a successful run on the independent circuit, Pete Dunne signed for WWE as part of the NXT brand in early 2017. With his brash and hard-hitting style, he has gained the respect of both fans and colleagues alike.

After several outstanding performances on NXT, he captured the WWE United Kingdom championship in May of this year and has since shown the tenacity and ability to carry the title and represent the UK division.

Dunne could be a key player for WWE heading into 2018, and will no doubt be called up to the main roster in due course. Hopefully WWE Creative will have plans to bring out the best in him and give him a good run on either RAW or Smackdown Live. In this piece, we take a look at the qualities that Dunne holds that make him amongst the strongest and most talented of WWE's current roster.

#5 All-Rounder Moveset

Although WWE is constantly evolving and restricting the types of moves they allow on their programming, Pete Dunne has honed his skills in on a variety of moves and techniques.

From finger-bending submission holds, to stiff striking kicks or even his patented Bitter End finisher, the Bruiserweight can adapt his style to fit any opponent. Dunne has adapted his moveset to fit his character seamlessly and being a strong striker as well as a high flyer makes him even more suited to the WWE style of wrestling.

This could be key to his progression in WWE, considering their spectrum of sizes and styles in their superstars.

#4 Tag Match Ability

British Strong Style

Alongside his indy-brothers Trent Seven and Tyler Bate, Dunne is a part of the British Strong Style faction. The B.S.S boys made an indelible mark on the independent scene in 2016, capturing the Progress Wrestling Tag Team Championships along with the Progress World Championship title. Dunne has proved himself to be just a strong a singles competitor as he is in a tag team setting. This gives WWE the option to push Dunne in different directions and gives WWE Creative leeway to position him into one of the current main rosters.

#3. Indy-Circuit Support

With WWE being always on the hunt to garner new audiences and fans, Pete Dunne's impact on the independent circuit's across the globe will no doubt regain some of the following lost in the PG era, should Dunne become a full-time fixture on WWE television.

Dunne has competed on UK promotions such as Progress and Revolution Pro Wrestling, as well as other well-known promotions in Japan, Germany and the United States. He has won championships and has been a main event superstar throughout the last 10 years of his career. He is said to have gained quite a following in Japan after his three-month tour with Michinoku Pro.

#2. Character

<p>

Babyface, Heel, Good-guy, Bad-guy. All terms which have become somewhat outdated over the decades of pro wrestling. Where once upon a time a roster or match card would be made up of the classic "Good vs. Evil" angles, now we see a slightly more neutral approach, letting the fans decide for themselves who they want to boo or cheer from their actions rather than the manufactured characters.

Pete Dunne comes across with a confident bravado. A gutsy, tough attitude from the gritty Birmingham streets which raised him. He's not going to play into the crowd's hands, he's going to swagger to the ring and beat you up. This toughness and silently cocky attitude has been his major selling point thus far for wrestling fans getting behind him. With this in mind, it's clear that Dunne can mould himself into a situation and still gain respect from audiences even if he is being pushed as a heel superstar.

#1 Career peak

E

As any wrestling fan knows, all superstars have a shelf life. Dunne has been in the wrestling business since 2006, making him already on his way to a veteran status at only 24-years-old. With the faster, stronger style of wrestling that Dunne partakes in, one wonders how quick WWE need to act if Dunne is to make his impact at the peak of his fitness and ring knowledge. As mentioned previously, Dunne has wrestled across the world and studied wrestling as an art form, something which not every superstar on the current rosters has had the opportunity to do.

These 5 reasons make Pete Dunne an integral part of the growth of professional wrestling, and WWE will hopefully acknowledge this going forward. Hopefully, within the next year or two, Dunne and his British Strong Style counterparts will be among the regular faces we see every week on WWE television.
