5 Reasons Why WWE Reuniting DX Is A Mistake

Who's ready to classify this DX reunion as a failure?
Who's ready to classify this DX reunion as a failure?

Are you ready?

While those three words used to incite cheers from The WWE Universe a decade ago, it is now the rallying cry of two old men who have no business being in the ring. Furthermore, it is a cheap use of a reunion tour on WWE's part and it should have no place in today's WWE landscape.

Of course this might have been a semi decent feud if three of the four men involved in the storyline could actually still compete, but they don't seem to be able to any more. With that being said, the story will have to be mostly told through promos and attitude era style segments, but who knows if even that is going to work!

In all honesty, there are a lot of reasons why making this decision was a mistake and they will all be explained in the coming slides. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and tell us if you are excited about The DX reunion or not. Also let us know if you're looking forward to the upcoming match between DX and The Brothers of Destruction.

#5 Low ratings

Why would WWE do this when Monday Night Raw's ratings are already in the can.
Why would WWE do this when Monday Night Raw's ratings are already in the can.

Its no secret that WWE is scraping the bottom of the barrier ratings wise right now and some of that has to do with the ongoing storyline between DX and The Brothers of Destruction. If nothing else, The WWE Universe has let the company know multiple times that they didn't want this once in a lifetime match and they still haven't listened.

While fans didn't do that vocally, they did so by turning their televisions to another channel and that should be a powerful statement. Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, the company seems to feel that they can put a band-aid on this by capitalizing off of DX nostalgia, which only makes this only seem like more of a cash grab.

#4 The match in Melbourne

Triple H versus The Undertaker was a disaster of a match.
Triple H versus The Undertaker was a disaster of a match.

Let's be honest here.

The match was a mess and fans were glad when the 20-minute contest was finally over. Sure, the match had its moments, but those were few and far between. In fact, none of the four superstars looked like they belonged in the ring, more or less in a main event match at an overseas pay per view

In the end, WWE might have had good intentions with the storyline, but that doesn't excuse the lackluster build, match and reunion tour that the company is trying to pawn off on fans. Furthermore, WWE made the decision to reunite DX after the match in Melbourne was critically panned, which shows WWE is ignoring their fans.

#3 It doesn't benefit anyone

What does this Undertaker storyline do to benefit anyone?
What does this Undertaker storyline do to benefit anyone?

Who benefits from this match?

While the fans in Saudi Arabia might benefit if the tag team match at Crown Jewel is any good, there isn't much chance of that happening after the disaster that was their match in Melbourne, Australia. In fact, with the limited amount of story telling the Triple H, Undertaker, Kana and Shawn Michaels showed in the ring, one has to wonder what the point of a rematch is.

Beyond that, what is the point of the match if no one benefits from it? Maybe this storyline would be a little bit easier to get behind if they were using younger stars to help tell the story, its hard to even care what the final result is when all four men are either already retired or knocking on the door of retirement itself.

Again, if WWE somehow incorporated superstars like Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns and Finn Balor into the mix, it wouldn't be that bad. Unfortunately for the young stars that would love to take part in an opportunity like this, WWE seems to have no interest in doing that, which is very disappointing to see.

#2 Takes opportunities away from other superstars

WWE needs to stop focusing on legends and start focusing on younger stars like Bobby Lashley.
WWE needs to stop focusing on legends and start focusing on younger stars like Bobby Lashley.

Monday Night Raw has an insanely stacked roster for a three hour show and that might be one of the reasons why The D Generation X reunion is so confusing. Yes, it is true that nostalgia sells and The WWE Universe want to see old school acts do battle again, but is it really worth it when this is the result?

With that being said, Monday Night Raw has a plethora of superstars they could have done something with, but instead choose to do a nostalgia act that can't even perform well in the ring anymore. If nothing else, this spot could have been used for anything else and it would have benefited WWE much more than this silly reunion could ever even dream of.

Furthermore, the younger stars are much more deserving of a spot like this and WWE should realize that. Of course WWE is a business and they like to focus on the dollar signs, but wouldn't it make more sense to invest in building a star for the future and not four guys that have no business in the ring anymore?

#1 Promise of one time only

What happeend to this being the last time ever that Triple H and The Undertaker faced off?
What happeend to this being the last time ever that Triple H and The Undertaker faced off?

WWE has made the promise of last time ever on a multitude of occasions and they never seem to keep it. The only problem with doing that however is that it takes away from the uniqueness of the match and makes it seem like something that WWE is only going to exploit for more money.

Of course WWE has every right to do this and they should if they feel it is in their best interest, but how can doing so be in their best interest? Not only does continuing the storyline act as an outright lie to the original promise of last time ever, it is also marred by the fact that fans were particularly happy with the first installment of the match either.

In the end, this isn't to hate on Triple H , The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Kane, or even to force them into retirement, its to show that this is a mistake on WWE's part. In fact, this is to prove to The WWE Universe, that nostalgia doesn't always sell and there are other superstars that deserve opportunities more than these four.
