5 Reasons why WWE's ratings are improving

What does Brock Lesnar have to do with a ratings uptick?
What does Brock Lesnar have to do with a ratings uptick?

Whether The WWE Universe wants to admit it or not, the company seems to be steadily improving week after week and their increase in ratings is a perfect sign of that.

Not only does it show that the changes WWE is making week after week are working, but it also gives fans hope that WWE will continue to try new things as time goes on.

With that being said, what is exactly behind WWE's uptick in ratings and is what they're doing sustainable in the long run.

Beyond that, how will WWE fair once AEW goes live in October and they are in an all-out rating's war for the first time in years?

While it's impossible to answer those questions, especially without knowing what AEW is capable of on a long term basis, it's incredibly easy to point out why ratings are improving.

In the end, here are five reasons WWE ratings are improving and what they can continue to do in the future to ensure this stays the case.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to let us know whether you think WWE as a whole is improving its product or not.

#5 Deviating from the norm

Its nice to see Vince McMahon and WWE embracing so much change!
Its nice to see Vince McMahon and WWE embracing so much change!

One major thing in WWE's uptick in view count has to be the fact that they have deviated from their usual norm and have embraced many different types of storytelling.

With that being said, between the nightmare-inducing Firefly Fun House segments and WWE not starting every show with a promo, it seems like the company is more willing to try new things.

Not only is that great for the short term, especially with fans already reacting positively to the changes, it also creates a situation where the company will continue to try new ideas in order to try to figure out what will stick.

If nothing else, it's a great time to be a wrestling fan since WWE is willing to try new things and the ratings prove that!

#4 Using legends effectively

Goldberg versus Undertaker. Who wins?
Goldberg versus Undertaker. Who wins?

While WWE has been overly reliant on veterans and legends in the past to help ratings, it seems like they are becoming much more effective when it comes to when and how to use them.

In fact, WWE's use of Goldberg versus The Undertaker and Triple H versus Randy Orton are perfect examples of this.

Think about it! WWE using veterans and legends effectively have been a problem for years now, but trotting them out for these special events like Super ShowDown and not overly involving them in the title picture has seemingly been the best solution to this.

It also allows WWE to use their bigger draws to bring fans in while keeping them entertained with their younger talent.

In the end, WWE needs to do this more often, especially at some of their B level pay per views, in order to keep a steady host of fans interested in the product.

If they do this and are able to continue to do it effectively, fans will continue to have a reason to tune in week after week and WWE will then have a chance to entice them into other parts of the product.

#3 24/7 belt for comic relief

WWE is doing a great job of creating comedic relief with the 24/7 belt.
WWE is doing a great job of creating comedic relief with the 24/7 belt.

Let's be honest here!

WWE has struggled in the comedic relief department for quite some time now and while the company has had some hits here and there over the last couple of months, it was nothing compared to what they are capable of.

Fortunately for The WWE Universe however all that changed with the introduction of The 24/7 title.

Now with The 24/7 belt in play, WWE has an endless stream of comedic relief segments that they can pepper throughout both main shows and online.

It also attracts a chaotic element to the overall product, which should keep fans watching as they wait and see who will win the title next.

If nothing else, watching R-Truth tricking Bobby Roode into getting into his car, losing the title a week later to Elias and winning it back under a ring in a quick match is beyond funny.

WWE has also kept the gag going online as well, which resulted in a nice mini video on a golf course, where Truth almost lost the belt.

In the end, this is what WWE has needed for al ong time and will hopefully lead to even more innovations that the company needs to make.

If nothing else, these segments are great for quite break between main segments and really help fill out the three hours of content on Raw, which is another huge plus.

#2 Use of Brock Lesnar

WWE is using Brock Lesnar much more effectively lately.
WWE is using Brock Lesnar much more effectively lately.

It's no secret that The WWE Universe absolutely despises Brock Lesnar, especially after he made his surprise return and won The Money In The Bank briefcase, but his presence has seemed to help cause an uptick in the ratings.

Seriously though, ratings have consistently been up since WWE started this whole Brock Lesnar cash-in thing.

Of course, The WWE Universe isn't happy about the move and bemoans the very idea of him holding a briefcase that should have gone to someone else, but the way the company has used it was genius.

With that being said, it doesn't matter if his eventual cash in is successful or not. What does matter, however, is the positive effect of his reign as Mr. Money in the bank has had on the ratings.

In all honesty, WWE needs to keep doing more things like this with Brock Lesnar and find new ways to use him.

At least this way, his presence keeps ratings up, the fans have a heel to hate and WWE can use add even more depth to Brock Lesnar's character as time goes on.

#1 Fighting champions

There's just something about Seth Rollins as a fighting champion that makes you want to watch!
There's just something about Seth Rollins as a fighting champion that makes you want to watch!

Fighting champion.

It's the term thats been thrown around countless times in the buildup to the feud between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins, but it's something that has truly helped turn the company's product around.

It has also created a situation where part-time champions are becoming a thing of the past, which is even better news for The WWE Universe.

In all honesty, Seth Rollins and Kofi Kingston both being portrayed as fighting champions, willing to put their title and life on the line night after night is something that is truly admired by The WWE Universe.

Beyond that, its also something that helps paint both men as true underdogs and helps add depth to their character.

In the end, WWE needs to keep this system going as long as possible and resist the urge to go back to a part-time champion that they think will draw money.

If nothing else, WWE trying to establish long term stars is a much better plan and will result in even better things for the future.
