5 Reasons why WWE teased a Finn Balor-Alexa Bliss storyline romance on WWE RAW

RAW was a big show for WWE this week because it featured the return of Roman Reigns and Batista to the show. And yet, there was one segment that got tongues wagging across the WWE Universe. This was the 'Moment of Bliss' segment featuring Finn Balor. Alexa Bliss made eyes at the extraordinary man who can do extraordinary things.

Bliss urged Balor to show her his abs. And in return, she teased to show him something, before she was interrupted by Lio Rush. The mystery was later cleared in Alexa Bliss' social media post.

But why was this segment made at all, and why was a storyline romance teased? Let me try and answer this question in this article.

#5 To recapture the 18-49 demographic

WWE has lost a lot of its audience because of a more family-themed entertainment show

Anyone who watched WWE in the Attitude Era knows that the product was very different back then. The audience that actually watched the show was a lot younger, cooler and more hip. Having worked in the television industry for a few years myself, I know that this is the target audience that most channels hope to tap.

WWE's current fanbase comprises of children and families who seek wholesome entertainment. Of course, this is not a bad thing at all because it helps the company earn money through the sale of video games and action figures. But that coveted 18-49 target audience is something that many advertisers strive for.

And segments like these with innuendos are probably a way to recapture that audience in what is a very politically correct world now. Which is why this segment probably happened.

#4 The extraordinary success of Alexa Bliss' previous viral video

Not every video on the WWE YouTube channel gets 6+ million views. One video that did, showcased Alexa Bliss being interrupted in her changing room by a stagehand who'd come to inform her that she was up next. And he caught her unawares at a time when she was in the process of changing.

WWE is capitalising on the success of this video and using it as a theme across all of Alexa Bliss' programs, in my opinion. In an age where the athleticism aspect of sports entertainment is far more important than what you look like, few WWE Superstars are as gorgeous as Alexa Bliss is. And WWE is using this as a marketing tool to regain older fans.

While this week's segment was a far more PG version of the video above, bear in mind that even this video is hardly Attitude Era material. honestly. All they show is Bliss' back!

#3 Bliss' real-life romantic relationship has never been acknowledged

Alexa Bliss has been in a relationship with the current Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy for a long time now. But unlike a lot of other relationships in WWE, it has never been acknowledged.

I mean we all know that Dean Ambrose is married to Renee Young because the announcers allude to it, every single week. Or the fact that Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella are a couple and so are The Miz and his Mrs. Maryse because they were in a program together.

Of course, for those who watch Total Divas, this relationship is not a secret at all. But WWE has thankfully kept all Total Divas storylines apart from what happens on RAW and SmackDown Live, and I've always considered this to be a pretty positive development, all said and done.

And therefore, she's showcased as a temptress of sorts on 'A Moment of Bliss'.

#2 Bliss has teased romances with other superstars before

If you remember the Mixed Match Challenge tournament, Alexa Bliss teased a romance with Braun Strowman. And that gimmick actually got over big time with the WWE Universe, because of the disparity in their sizes. The monstrous Strowman was such a different character as compared to diminutive Bliss.

And Bliss could tease romantic entanglements on several occasions after that. She told Baron Corbin that she looks good and so does he, back when both of them were authority figures on RAW. And then she also teased a romance with EC3 when he made his RAW debut.

I suppose that this is a running thread that will be present on every single episode of 'A Moment of Bliss'. Alexa Bliss will be suggestive towards whichever guest appears on the show, pretty much making this her gimmick, before she actively begins competing again.

#1 To keep her on TV even while she's not competing

Alexa Bliss is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best looking female superstar in the WWE roster currently. They had her hold the title for a long time before this because she just has a natural presence about her. And now there's literally no role for her in the Championship role. This is why they have her doing this talk show role.

Plus, she has suffered a legitimate injury and a concussion not very long ago. While she has competed since then, one wonders if she's back to being 100% even right now. And therefore, WWE probably has her do these segments to just keep her on TV to keep the audience engaged.

How do you keep an audience occupied without taking a bump? In my honest opinion, one way to do that is with these bold innuendos.

But then Lio Rush spoiled all the fun, didn't he?
